THE NATIONAL BLACK ARTS FESTIVAL COMMEMORATES 10 YEARS OF ARTISTIC EXCELLENCE; "ART BEYOND BORDERS" CELEBRATION SET FOR JULY 10-19, 1998 IN ATLANTA, GA.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the National Black Arts Festival (NBAF), the world's largest and most prestigious cultural celebration of the creative and artistic genius of people of African descent. The 10th Anniversary Festival, scheduled for July 10-19, 1998 will showcase the work of more than 1,500 artists in disciplines including music, theatre, film, literature, dance, performance art, visual art and folk art.

The theme of the tenth anniversary National Black Arts Festival is "Art Beyond Borders." "It affirms that African Diaspora Art is the triumphant and transcendent expression of African peoples throughout the world. It has touched and been touched by other cultures, yet it speaks with its own distinct voice," says Dwight Andrews, NBAF Artistic Director.

Traditionally held every two years during the summer, the very first Festival took place July 30-August 7, 1988. Ten years later, the NBAF has surpassed its original expectations and remains a premiere artistic showcase featuring prominent artists from around the globe. "As the 10th Anniversary Festival nears, there is a feeling of heightened expectancy that this Festival will be both synergestic and magical" said Deborah Richardson, Managing Director of the National Black Arts Festival.
