If you are interested in acquiring a valuable skill through on-the-job training, the Navy has a program for you.

It's called the Journeyman Program, and it's designed to help you develop your full potential through journeyman training in a job skill for which you qualify.

When you enlist, you'll learn about the programs that interest you most. If accepted, you will stay in that field until your training is completed. Each field contains many related job specialities, or as we call them in the Navy, ratings. Through hands-on training under expert supervision, you'll get a better idea of which rating you'd like to pursue. Later, you may want to enhance your skills at an advanced technical school.

With your newly acquired Navy skills and continuous learning experience you'll advance as quickly as your abilities and performance allow. Your apprenticeship and on-the-job training in the Navy's Journeyman Program is the preparation you need to succeed in today's technology.

You'll probably experience the adventure of sailing the seas. Your first regular duty assignment will likely be as a crew member on one of the Navy's highly technical ships.

The Navy has thousands of exciting opportunities for men and women in various career fields. Greatly expanded opportunities are also available for both women officers and enlisted women to serve at sea aboard combatant ships, which ensures that career paths are equitable to their male counterparts.

Learn About the Variety of Job Specialties

Nautical Journeyman
Leads into the largest group of Navy job specialties, such as ship operations and maintenance, ordnance (guns, torpedoes, laser-guided missiles, and other equipment), administration, and electronics, to name a few.

Mechanical Journeyman
Learn skills associated with various shipboard, engineering trades such as engineman, machinery repairman and gas turbine systems technician.

Aviation Journeyman
Work with specialists in the many Navy aviation job specialties, from acronautical electronics to aircraft structural repair.
