My Philosophy
I have learn to adopt as much as possible the KISS philosophy in whatever I do. And that includes keeping a well balanced planted tank too.

What does KISS means ? KISS is
Keep It Simple Stupid.
I always believe things are actually pretty simple and straightforward once you have truly understood it, be it calculus or a growing a planted tank. It is really no different.

Achieving the right balance in a planted aquarium can be a bit tricky especially during the initial stages. So I highly recommend reading Diane Walstad book called "Ecology of a Planted Aquarium. A practical manual and scientific treatise for the home aquarist". It is truly a magnificent book. If I can sum up the book in just 7 words, it will be "let nature do the job for you".

Establish an equilibrium system and let nature do the job for you - as much as possible. Example : Let the bacteria breakdown the urea into nitrates, protein and cellulose into CO2 and H20, and let the plants absorb the nitrites, nitrates and other toxic substances, etc.
So my advice to any budding aquarist is go and read as much as possible, experiment, learn and you can achieve a fantastic and beautiful planted aquarium.

It is in fact very simple.

   Good Luck.
