My Philosophy | |||||||||||||||||||||
I have learn to adopt as much as possible the KISS philosophy in whatever I do. And that includes keeping a well balanced planted tank too. What does KISS means ? KISS is Keep It Simple Stupid. |

I always believe things are actually pretty simple and straightforward once you have truly understood it, be it calculus or a growing a planted tank. It is really no different. Achieving the right balance in a planted aquarium can be a bit tricky especially during the initial stages. So I highly recommend reading Diane Walstad book called "Ecology of a Planted Aquarium. A practical manual and scientific treatise for the home aquarist". It is truly a magnificent book. If I can sum up the book in just 7 words, it will be "let nature do the job for you". Establish an equilibrium system and let nature do the job for you - as much as possible. Example : Let the bacteria breakdown the urea into nitrates, protein and cellulose into CO2 and H20, and let the plants absorb the nitrites, nitrates and other toxic substances, etc. |

So my advice to any budding aquarist is go and read as much as possible, experiment, learn and you can achieve a fantastic and beautiful planted aquarium. It is in fact very simple. Good Luck. |
