C.G.C (U.S.A - Canine Good Citizen) or
C.G.N (Canada - Canine Good Neighbour)

to the training class, however ability to pass is based on skills
level. For testing the dog must be capable of fulfilling ALL required
Test Procedures)
We offer classes in C.G.C. or C.G.N. including evaluation then
submission for your certification.
The purpose of the Canine Good Citizen® Program is to ensure that
our favourite companion, the dog, can be a respected member of the
community. To receive the CGC certificate, dogs take the 10 item
Canine Good Citizen® Test. Items on the test include:
CGC Test Procedures and acquired training or knowledge
Test Item 1: Accepting a friendly stranger
Test Item 2: Sitting politely for petting
Test Item 3: Appearance and grooming
Test Item 4: Out for a walk (walking on a loose lead)
Test Item 5: Walking through a crowd
Test Item 6: Sit and down on command - staying in place
Test Item 7: Coming when called
Test Item 8: Reaction to another dog
Test Item 9: Reaction to distraction
Test Item 10: Supervised separation
Equipment:
All tests must be performed on leash. Dogs should wear well-fitting
buckle or slip collars made of leather, fabric, or chain. Special
training collars such as pinch collars, head halters, etc. are not
permitted in the CGC test. We recognize that special training collars
may be very useful tools for beginning dog trainers, however, we
feel that dogs are ready to take the CGC test at the point at which
they are transitioned to regular collars.
The evaluator supplies a 20-foot lead for the test. The owner/handler
should bring written proof of rabies vaccines and the dog's brush
or comb to the test.
Encouragement:
Owners/handlers may use praise and encouragement throughout the
test. The owner may pet the dog between exercises. Food and treats
are not permitted during testing, nor is the use of toys, squeaky
toys, etc. to get the dog to do something. We recognize that food
and toys may provide valuable reinforcement or encouragement during
the training process but these items should not be used during the
test.
Failures:
Dismissals Any dog that eliminates during testing must be marked
failed. The only exception to this rule is that elimination is allowable
in test Item 10, but only when test Item 10 is held outdoors.
Any dog that growls, snaps, bites, attacks, or attempts to attack
a person or another dog is not a good citizen and must be dismissed
from the test.
The Canadian Kennel Club Canine Good Neighbour program identifies
and rewards responsible and caring owners and their canine partners.
The purpose of the Canine Good Neighbour Program test is to ensure
that one of our most favoured companions, the dog, is accepted as
a valued member of the community. Canine Good Neighbours can be
counted on to present good manners at home, in public places and
in the presence of other dogs.
The program embraces both purebred and mixed-breed dogs and has
been created to assist canine owners combat anti-dog sentiments
which often target dogs as a whole. Additionally, the program enhances
community awareness of responsible dog ownership and the benefits
associated with dog ownership.
Canine Good Neighbour training is fun, rewarding, and useful. It
can enable owners to achieve a better relationship with their dogs.
The test is not a competition calling for precision performance
by the handler and dog. Rather, it's assesses the handler and dog's
relationship together with the handler's ability to control the
dog.
Dogs are evaluated on their ability to perform basic exercises
as well as their ability to demonstrate good manners in everyday
situations.
The Canadian Kennel Club encourages all dog owners to participate
in this program, thereby ensuring that our beloved canines are welcomed
and respected members of the community

Accelerant Detection Training
Accelerant detection dogs are becoming widely used by insurance
adjusters and fire departments alike. The value of a highly skilled
accelerant dog is more apparent in the current world climate than
it has ever in the past and they are rapidly proving themselves
to be a valuable asset to the arson investigator. Accelerant Detection
Dogs are being used more each year by arson investigators as well
as private companies who do investigations for insurance fraud and
claims.
The use of an arson dogs will help determine if accelerants were
used in a fire and reduces the number of samples that need to be
collected and tested; saving time and money.
Natural Bond trains all Accelerant Detection Dogs to work around
physical obstacles including debris, hazards and unstable building
masses. They discriminate between the scents of various accelerants
used to set fires. Our accelerant dogs are trained in passive alert,
i.e., to sit on or lay the odour, so they don't disturb any evidence
at the scene. Accelerant dogs are trained to discriminate the scent
of hydrocarbons, the substance most commonly found at an arson fire
scene. Substances include:
- Gasoline
- Lighter fluid
- Charcoal starter
- Diesel
- Kerosene
- Acetone
- Coleman fuel
- Alcohol
- Brake fluid
- Paint thinner
- Turpentine
- Naptha
When you pick up your Accelerant Detection Dog it will be fully
trained and tested out on all of the twelve-accelerant scents. Natural
Bond puts each dog through a minimum of 16 weeks extensive training.
We make every endeavour ensure each training simulation scenario
is as realistic as possible. Once the dog has completed training
and we believe it to be ready for step two (working with your handler),
your handler will go through an comprehensive handling course with
his new partner. The price of the dog includes the two-week handler
course.
Each handler attending the course must earn in order for the team
to pass, the evaluation and certification is based on the team not
the dog. However, any handler desiring extra training time will
be given that time at no additional charge. After the handler's
course, we will guarantee the dog for six months and any refresher
training or updating will be offered at no charge to the team for
that time as long as it is relevant to the initial training the
dog team was certified under.
If the handler is actively working and doing proper upkeep training
with the dog they should not see any problem in this 6-month time
period. If a problem should arise in that time frame, and we determine
the dog unable to be re-trained, will replace it with another dog
of equal value and training. This does not include injury or death
on the job.
We have the following breeds available for Accelerant Detection:
- Labrador Retrievers
- Belgian Malinois
- German and Shepherds Dutch Shepherds
- Beagles
Cost of Accelerant detection dogs' range from $4,000.00 to $8,000.00
