Our
Breeding Program
Natural Bond's Puppy Development Enrichment
Program
We
start with early neurological stimulation using the "Bio Sensor"
program.
The
U.S. Military for their war dog program developed the “Bio Sensor”
program. Which was later referred to by the public as the “Super Dog” program.
From three days old to sixteen days old in this program puppies
are handled daily using a series of exercises (five) that last five
seconds each. In these exercises the puppies gain brain wave activity
that naturally would not occur otherwise, this stimulates early
brain development that gives a jump-start and has proven to be harmless
but beneficial to the puppies and later as adult dogs. We have found
that the puppies that we have used this technique with compared
to litters we have not used it with; have housebroken quickly and
with greater ease, have more drive to learn, have less separation
issues, have higher degrees of confidence in stressful situations,
have better problem solving skills. They make superb all round working
dogs.
(look in testimonials
to see how purchasers find the learning aptitude and confidence
of Natural Bond Puppies) if you would like more detailed information
on the exercises that are performed please feel free to e-mail
us.
The
study done by the US Military found benefits from this program were:
- Improved cardiovascular performance
- Stronger heart beats
- Larger adrenal glands
- More tolerance to stress
- Greater resistance to disease
We
immediately follow the “Super Dog” Program with our “Confidence
Builder” Program. What we
do is take different groupings of puppies away from mother twice
a day. This changes the normal dynamics of the litter allowing all
of the puppies to assume different status roles than they would
normally hold with in the litter structure. We continue this “C.B”
Program until six weeks of age at which time we allow natural pack
dynamics to also develop but first giving puppies the opportunity
to all gain a solid confidence base and foot hold. This helps to
enhance the
At
three weeks of age we will introduce various scents to puppies that
will need to be imprinted on them. This can be for “Scent Programs”
such as S.A.R, Police Detection work (narcotics-pseudo, guns, bomb-NESTT) Accelerant, or Disaster Relief (pseudo-cadaver),
etc. or scent introduction can be to imprint a person’s smell on
the pup for Seizure Work. Puppies going for hunting purposes will
be introduced to the wing at 3 weeks old we feel this early scent
imprinting give a strong positive association making a better all
round hunting dog as an adult.
We
continue with play handling daily, by adults, children and exposure
to safe pets and other stimulus like television and home sounds
such as blenders and vacuum cleaners, until they leave our home
to move to their new family environment. We raise all pups under
foot in our Kitchen and rotate them daily to other rooms of the
house as well as on different surfaces, including; carpet, linoleum,
concrete, ceramic and grass.
We
utilize feeding time for the puppies to help develop problem-solving
skills, drive and comfort with sound including gunshots. Each day
we place various barriers between the puppies and the food dish.
This challenges the puppies’ problem- solving skills and encourages
them to take various actions to solve the barrier problem going,
under, over, through, and arround obstacles they begin to learn
to solve problems early in life. By placing food under object puppies
have to use problem-solving skills they would not normally experience
at this young age to sort out how to get at it. We add barriers
increasing complexity as the skills develop.
Our
sound desensitization program uses feeding time as a time of comfort
to accustom puppies to normally staring sounds such as vacuums,
gunshots (22.Cal), clicker, pots dropping and various other sounds
in the environment. By simulating these sounds while feeding or
nursing the puppies learn to accept them with comfort and associate
them with positive feelings of contentment, this makes the transition
to these sounds virtually non-existent and certainly more accepted
later on in life. For dogs going on for hunting, service, hearing
dog, seizure or police, security, disaster or SAR work this is invaluable.
To pet puppies it is a great bonus knowing your puppy will not e
sound shy and can be exposed to more aspects of your life including
attending fire works displays, and comfort around construction sites
when walking or just on vacuuming day.
This
development period when the neurological development takes place
is the only window of opportunity in which these “early stimulation
” type exercises can be done with the same advantages. Once
this early development time has passed you loose the opportunity
to gain the advantages proven to take place by these exercises.
At
no time are Natural Bond puppies exposed to outside animals. The
only contact with other animals that Natural Bond Puppies have is
with our own pets. We do this to ensure no passage of disease will
happen while puppies are not fully inoculated and protected from
disease.
All
visitors to see puppies must wait until they are at least four weeks
old and only then at our discretion. If we do not feel it is in
our puppies’ best interest we do not allow visitors until puppies
are six weeks old. When visitors arrive they should be prepared
that we do not allow people to “kennel hop”. This means we will
be insisting that you do not visit any other Kennel or dogs the
day you come to see our puppies (disease is spread very easily through
contact with other infected kennels and disease does not have to
be visible to be present) Please respect our desire to keep our
puppies safe and healthy by complying with this. You will also be
asked to either remove or possibly shoes or possibly even step into
a disinfectant wash with shoes on to clean the soles (dependent
on disease risk factors present at the time) and you will be asked
to disinfect hands before handling our puppies.
This
may sound drastic to some but it is all in the interest of providing
the best possible service to our customers. Ensuring they receive
healthy puppies, that come disease and heath problem free well developed,
socialized, confident, with the best possible start to begin life
in their new home. We give the same attention to detail to every
puppy we breed regardless of what function or position it will hold
in life. As breeders we own that to every dog we breed and every
puppy born to our program and to our values customers who trust
us to give the very best.

Natural
Bond Nutrition and Health Standards
Nutrition
Natural Bond has spent many years studying Canine Nutrition and previously we had found little to offer in the way of comercial dog food. Much of the comercial dog food we looked at in our opinion was little more than the equivelent of boxed sugar breakfast cereal for children.
We are pleased to note that recently a new product has come on the market for Canine Nutrition. We at Natural Bond have spent a great deal of time researching and test driving this product and for the first time in our history we have switched ALL of our Natural Bond Dogs and Puppies over to Royal Canin Canine Nutrition.
Our entire breeding stock has been on this food and we have noted an incredible difference in the health, quailty and vigor of both our puppies and their Dams. We noted that the Dams lost on average 3-4 pounds per breeding as opposed to previous stats of 10- 15 pounds. We also noted that glucose levels on the bitches throughout their pregnancy stayed level and never fluctuated. Puppies were more uniform in size and weighed in between 1 and 1.4 pounds. The Dams milk also seemed to come in with better consistnacy and pups were more content in the first week of life.
We fully endorse Royal Canin, Maxi puppy, for our pups and pregnant or nursing bitches. For our Labradors in general we were thrilled to find that Royal Canin has taken the time to look at the specific needs of Labradors and generated a product geared specifically to them! They have done this with several breeds that have particular nutrition requirements.
All Natural Bond Labradors will now be feed on Royal Canin Canine Nutrition for their good health and long life. Please look in our links section for a link to Royal Canin.
We
believe that the financial investment in a quality-feeding program
is as important for sound, strong, disease free dogs as exceptional
breeding stock, andgenetic health testing is. We do not cut corners with nutrition at Natural
Bond; at all times our dogs will be on a carefully screened and
regularly re-evaluated diet, with each individual dogs needs at
the foremost in the decision making process.
Health & vaccine program
Our
breeding stock are all OVC/OFA cleared for HD (hip Dysplasia) prior to breeding.
All
of our stock is fully vaccinated annually with additional boosters
given in between as recommended by our veterinarian for local area
needs. All of our dogs/puppies are placed on Revolution- heart worm/flea/mange/ear
mite protection from May 31- November annually.
Our
veterinarian sees puppies on the very first day they are born and
checks for any birth defects or health concerns immediately.
Dewclaws
are removed at three days old where our veterinarian again inspects
the puppy for any signs of ill health or concerns.
Puppies
receive their first vaccinations at 7 weeks old and then every four
weeks until the series of three vaccinations is complete at 15 weeks
old. Older puppies or Natural Bond Puppies that stay on with us
get vaccinated for Rabies at 6 months old and then annually with
their regular vaccination schedule.
All
puppies are stool sample checked at 6 weeks old and appropriate
treatment given if necessary.
All
Natural Bond puppies are micro chipped for identification purposes
before they leave us.

Natural Bond Shipping
of Puppies
We are located approximately two hours north of Toronto International Airport. This is
the location we ship from with one of three airlines. If between
the months of March-October going to a southern locations Continental
airline will ship past most other airlines heat embargo cut off
times, with special handling procedures. For non-southern locations
this is often June- September but these time frames change annually
and must be checked with the airport prior to departure within three
days.
Airline regulations require a puppy traveling to be
a minimum of 8 weeks of age and accompanied by a valid health certificate
or health passport (we provide this). The charge for shipping by
air is generally based weight and occasionally based on the size
of the kennel (200-puppy crate) and the method of travel. Distance
is not a consideration in the shipping cost. Given the current flux
of airline issues we can not offer an estimate of pricing as this
could change but for the shipping of an 8 – 10 weeks old puppy you
can expect any where from $150.00 CND to $200.00 CND shipping is
at the purchasers expense and must be paid up front and a deposit
of $50.00 added for the shipping crate which will be reimbursed
upon return of the shipping crate.
