- Employment
I began my career at the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA),
after performing a senior-year collegiate internship
there. After a year of training, I was promoted to
Assistant Ship Operations Manager, where my
responsibilities included being one of two primary
contacts for coordinating the arrival and working of over
1,800 ships at the GPA's four terminals in Savannah and
Brunswick. This was a tough job, but very rewarding in
terms of knowledge gained. While in this position, I
served on two U.S. Coast Guard Committees - The Port of
Savannah's Underkeel Clearance Advisory Board, and the
1996 Olympic Working Committee. I was also GPA's primary
liasion with the U.S. Navy for the 1998 commissioning of
the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer USS McFaul (DDG 74) at one of our terminals in Savannah.
I later moved to the position of Marketing Researcher,
where some of my work to support the sales staff included
gathering import and export data on commmodities, ports,
companies at various points in the logistics chain, etc..
My methods include using databases, internet research,
print media, and so on. I also worked with coworkers on
presentation books, ad development, and media placement
strategies. I then moved up to Marketing Analyst and left
the organization.
Savannah is an awesome and growing port, with a strong
maritime tradition and a tight-knit community. For two or
three years, I was the Secretary for the Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Savannah.
in 2001, I moved to Atlanta, Georgia to become the
regional sales representative for an container steamship
line, Lloyd Triestino. LT, an Italian company, is over 165
years old. I sell the import and export transportation
services of the line between North America and the Far
East.
