The Man Behind the Moon

MIDDLETOWN-- It was raining, and a cold breeze cut across the bleachers. It was on this cold and dreary day that a bunch of John Donnelly's homies (not me; I was sitting someplace else), suggested the audacious idea that he brighten everyone spirits by exposing his hairy bottom to the crowd.

Donnelly was hesitant at first. "They were offering me money and shit," he said, "but then Sammy said 'John, you would be a legend,' so I decided to do it."

And with that, he briefly stopped off at where I was sitting to warn me (so I could look away, presumably), and then ambled out onto the field. It was on this field that he began waving to the crowd, who at this point, didn't really give two shum. A few people gave one shum, but I didn't see any ready to surrender any more shums at the moment.

After he had been waving for several second, Donnelly unfastened his belt and mooned the crowd. Someone sitting near me shouted a suggestion that Donnelly was a homosexual. Of the people near me, many seemed to agree.

Having once again covered his bottom, Donnelly strode back off the field were a gang of angry gestapo officers were waiting to take him into custody.

Where he went after this point is the subject of much speculation. At the time, it was suggested that Donnelly may be being under the bleachers. Now it is possible that he may have been taken back into the school in spite of the lingering possibility that it might blow up.

According to Donnelly, the administrator with whom he spoke called the police, and told them of Donnelly's actions, inquiring as to what, if anything, he could be arrested for. The police officer apparently gave fewer shums than the pre-mooning crowd had, and Donnelly wasn't arrested.

However, Donnelly was sentenced by the administrator to nine days suspension. This sentence as shortened later when everyone realized Donnelly was a really nice guy.

Meanwhile, rumors flew as to the exact nature of his punishment. One teacher reporting as fact what she had actually heard as a rumor, said that Mr. Donnelly was both receiving psychiatric help and being fined. In addition, the actual payment for Donnelly's mooning was said by may to be in excess of one hundred dollars, when, in fact, it was thirty-five. Later, Donnelly noted that he wouldn't accept that money.
