For the first time since 1994, Iceland had a televised national final, which was held on February 26th at the RUV TV Studios in Reykjavik, hosted by Hjálmar Hjálmarsson & Hera Björk Þórhallsdóttir . The winning song was chosen by televoting.

Guðrun Gunnarsdottir was a backing singer for Iceland in the 1993 and 1995 Eurovision's. In Stockholm, Einar and Telma performed the song in English as "Tell me" and came 12th. Among their backing singers was Eyfi Kristjansson who represented Iceland in 1991 with Stefan Hilmarsson.
