The Icelandic Final was held on February 10th at the RUV TV studios in Reykjavik, hosted by Edda Andrésdóttir. Before the final there were two semi-finals, click here for details: ICELANDIC SEMI-FINALS 1990 The winner was chosen by the votes of 8 regional juries and a jury of "experts".

Both Sigriður Beinteinsdóttir and Grétar Örvarsson had participated in previous Icelandic finals. Sigriður was a backing singer for Eyjólfur Kristjánsson in the 1987 Icelandic final. Grétar came 7th in the 1988 Icelandic final singing with Gigja Sigurðardóttir. Helga Möller was a member of the group Icy that represented Iceland in 1986. At the Eurovision, they came 4th.
