Successful Singleness - 2

THE OLD PATHS

When we talk about relationships, we naturally come to the subject of dating. And when we talk about dating, we also talk about marriage, because sooner or later, that's what it is going to lead to.

So we although that is not the main topic today, we will be discussing the subject of marriage too.

What is dating, and where did it come from? First of all, look at God's original plan for young people.

The case of Adam.

When Adam was created there was no mate for him. “And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.” Genesis 2:20.

God created Eve and brought her to Adam. “And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.” Genesis 2:21-22.

What was the order of events?

  • Adam was created.
  • He was placed in the Garden of Eden.
    • In other words, he started his work.
  • It was found that he had no one to help him.
  • When this was realized, then Eve was brought to him.
God did not place Adam in the Garden, and say to him, “All right Adam, now you go find a wife. There are several women out there, so you go pick one you like.”

Let’s be honest here. Adam really didn’t have that kind of choice to make. No, God made the choice for Adam. He made one just for him. Of course, God’s will was the best.

It wasn’t like Eve was some creep or something. They were made for each other. Adam could trust God to make the best choices for him.
