| This is the lagoon - one of the most enchanting places in Venice. We just came by "vaporetti" (a boat that transfers tourists to Venice). Vaporetti and gondolas are the only mean of public transportation. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This city is very special and unique. There are other cities with canals in the world but there is no other where all communication is exclusively made through its water canals. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Venice is known as well as the most serene because of the absence of cars and mopeds in its streets. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Gondola is one of the most typical sights in Venice and one of the most typical things to do is to ride one of them. And you sure must do that because the experience is uniqie and unforgettable especially if you are with a loved one. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The ride lasted about 50 minutes. After crossing lots of canals we entered the "Venice highway" - a Gran Canale (the Big Canal) where we saw the most famous bridge - Ponte di Rilato (the Rialto Bridge). It was constructed at the end of the 16th century. Artist like Michelangelo, Sansovino and Palladio took part in its construction. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| On your right you can see Piazza San Marco. This square has its origins in the 12th century but the current square was reconstructed in the 15th century. It is the biggest space in Venice which contrasts with the maze-like streets in this city. Behind me is Basilica of St. Mark - very impressive! Its construction began in the 9th century when the venetians merchants stole the remains of St. Mark in Alexandria | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
