Dear Mother
Dear Mother I thank you for giving life to me
It is the least you could do as far as I can see
That question that hung, so stagnant in the air
If you were my mother, why were you never there?
Year after year when I asked you only lied
Just to keep a child a little satisfied
Your weak excuses mean nothing to me now
I can vent my anger, for you showed me how
My father did the best by leaving me alone
But you always pelted my soul, stone after stone
Your coming to visit me, once a year or four
Your leaving tore me apart more than I was before
I always defended you against the families truth
I didn't see it then but now that I'm a youth
I see you and what you do for what you really are
A completely heartless wretch with a heart that freezes tar
You abandoned me when I was just a child
I grew up missing you while you were being wild
You came back for me, or so you say
You said, "This time I promise I will stay."
But you abandoned me again, and slipped right out the door
Now, I know the truth, I don't need you anymore
I'm a better person now, no thanks to you
You never were my mother, that is all that you could prove.
