Chapter 26

Shane and I decided we would split the Sushi platter. We ordered our dinner and our drinks. So Shane said, looking a little uncomfortable thanks for all your help. I smiled over my wine Youre very welcome.

After awhile of chatting, dinner arrived. We sat eating, and talking. It was nice; it wasnt like he was my ex.

After dinner and a few more glasses of wine, we decided to head back to the track. Shane drove, since my driving skills were a little more on the Todd Bodine side then the Dale Earnhardt.

Want to watch a movie? Shane asked, trying to get me to stay just a little bit longer. I agreed and allowed Shane to walk with his arm around me.

We got into his coach and I settled onto the couch, kicking off my sandals. Shane put in the movie and sat on the chair across the room.

I chuckled to myself Shane, he looked up at me you can sit over here. I need a pillow anyways. Shane stood up and came over to the couch. He sat down and put one of the couch pillows on his lap.

About an hour into the movie I felt Shane take my hand into his. I didnt know if I should take it away or just leave it. I saw him out of the corner of my eye, watching me, waiting to see what my expression would be.

I decided to leave it, a smile formed on Shanes lips. We continued watching the movie, not speaking, except for the occasional line quote.

The movie ended, I stood up and put on my sandals. Do you want me to walk you back to Dees? he asked, looking down at his feet. If you want I answered, picking up my purse.

Shane once again grabbed my hand as we walked through the coaches. Neither of us spoke the entire walk. We finally got to the coach. Thanks again for dinner I said, smiling. It wasnt a problem. I just wanted to thank you for helping me and the team today he said. Shane leaned in a kissed me softly on the lips. He turned around and walked away.

I sat outside for a few minutes on one of the chairs, contemplating what just happened. Did Shane and I just kiss? I said aloud to myself. Yup a female voice came from behind me. I turned around and saw Dee walking from behind the coach. Were you spying on me? I asked, giggling. Nope I was on the phone with my sister she said holding up her cell phone for emphasis.

So whats that all about? she said, motioning to the direction Shane had walked off in. I dont know. I mean I want to be with him SO bad but I am not about to get hurt again I replied. Dee put her head on my shoulder When it comes to you, youll know what to do

The next morning I was walking through the garages when I felt a hand wrap around my stomach. The cologne was unmistakable. Hey Shane I said, taking in as much of his scent as I could. Hi he said letting go and walking beside me. How are you? he asked, a smile across his face that I hadnt seen in awhile. Pretty good I answered. Shane walked with me until I got back to the coach area. Look, Shane said, as we stopped in front of his coach I think we need to have a long talk tonight. Dinner? he asked. I thought for a moment, I knew that this night would change everything. I decided to go for it, Yeah what time? I asked. Shane smiled and told me to be at his place at 7. I agreed and gave Shane a soft kiss on the cheek. Good luck in the race I whispered softly in his ear.

Shane stepped back and smiled You wanna watch from my pit box? he asked, pouting out his lip a little. I guess I said, rolling my eyes playfully. Shane smiled, and gave me a quick hug. Be safe I yelled as he walked away.

****meanwhile****

Dammit doesnt that girl learn?!? Beth snarled, watching from a distant spot. I guess that I will once again have to show her that her precious Shane is nothing but a dirty cheater. Mel sat back, listening to Beth complain about Shannon. Beth, you tried and you lost. Why dont you just get over him and find another? Mel sighed. Beth turned around and got up in Mels face Listen, I want Shane, I had Shane and I WILL have him again. You understand that? she screamed. Mel had never seen Beth fly off the handle like that. She knew that her short temper could cause harm to Shane or Shannon, she knew that she had to warn Shane.
