In all my life I would have never expected to see him again. Well, except for on Sundays when I would watch him race on TV. Over the years he had become bigger than most had thought he would. I always knew that he would be big.

I had kept up with his career, sitting down Sunday afternoons with depositions or whatever work I had for the day. I saw him take his first cup win and his first championship, all before he was 26. There were times when I wished that I was still with him, that it was me he was kissing in victory lane.

We had started dating in High School. He left early to move and pursue racing, while I had moved to go to college at Yale. We stayed together for a few months after the move, trying to make the long distance thing work. But over time we both grew apart, fighting every time we would talk.

We finally decided that it was for the best of we just went our separate ways. We never talked again after the day we had broken up, until one day when I was walking through Wal-Mart.

***Flashback***

Shay? the unmistakable voice said. I turned around to see those piercing blue eyes. Kace I said, smiling. I walked up to where he was standing; his arms wrapped around me and pulled me to him. God its been forever. You look great he stated, a smile on his face. I blushed a little; you look good too.

We sat there, chatting for a few, Lets go get some coffee and talk Kasey said, tugging on the sleeve of my jacket. I nodded and went to pay for my items.

That day, Kasey and I sat in the coffee shop talking about the past 4 years. I had told him about school and how wonderful it was to finally graduate. He wasnt shocked when I told him about the law firm that I had a partnership in. He tried to tell me about his accomplishments in NASCAR but I wouldnt let him, stating that I had been keeping up with his career.

So hows the love life? he asked, taking a sip of coffee. I blushed a little Non existent. Its kind of hard to date AND practice law. I chuckled. Yours? Kasey smiled, obviously at the thought of his love life. Im engaged, we are getting married in November. But dont tell anyone, it hasnt become public knowledge. I nodded.

After coffee, Kasey walked me back to my car. I will keep in touch he said, opening the door for me. I climbed in and gave a quick wave as I drove off.

I snapped out of my daze when my secretary walked in, handing me some files. It had been 3 months since my day with Kasey, he had yet called. Somewhere in my head I knew that he wouldnt but in my heart I hoped he would.

********

I was sitting on my couch in late November, watching the OSU game when I heard a knock on my door. I walked to the door and opened it, the rush of cool air almost knocked me down. I saw the figure standing in my doorway, wrapped up and covered in snow.

Kase? I asked, noticing those eyes. He nodded and walked past me into the house. He pulled off his beanie and looked at me. He looked different, almost sad.

Something wrong? I asked, walking towards him. He didnt answer; he just pulled me into a kiss. I backed away with shock on my face. Dammit Kasey said, rubbing his eyes with his fingers. I was in shock; I didnt understand what was going on. What is it Kasey? I asked. Kasey sighed and walked over to the couch. I was supposed to marry Sarah today he trailed off, looking up at me.

Ok. I said, not understanding Why arent you? And if you still are why are you kissing me? Kasey looked at me and patted the couch for me to sit next to him. Sarah and I have been miserable these last 3 months. 3 days ago she broke off the wedding, saying that she knew I was in love with someone else. She said that she could see it in my eyes. I had no idea what she was talking about. I sat for 2 days trying to figure it out. Thats why I kissed you, to see if she knew something that I didnt. he said, leaning back on the couch.

Im lost I said, looking at him. I came here to see if Sarah was right, if I was in love with you he looked at me, the eyes trying so hard to figure everything out. Was she? I asked, quietly. Kasey looked at me for a moment and quietly answered yes.
