| Chapter 1 "God it's freezing" Amanda said zipping up her hooded sweatshirt. She quickly locked up her car and headed towards to the house for some sort of refuge from the cold. She turned the nob of the house and walked in, dropping her keys and her purse on the table in the foyer. "Brian??" she called out into the almost too peaceful house. No answer. She knew he was there because both of his cars were in the driveway. She wandered through the house checking the rooms in search of her friend, each were empty. She slid open the blinds to the back porch and there he was, sitting quietly in a lawn chair. "You must have gone completely bonkers boy," she said chuckling as she walked out the back door. He quietly looked up at her with his teary eyes. "Oh my god Bri, what's wrong" she said, her mood quickly changing. She sat down beside him and took his hand in hers. He took a breath "Amy and I broke up" he said with almost a wimper in his voice. Amanda wrapped her arms around the man she had known her entire life and gave him a squeeze. "I'm so sorry bud, let's head inside and talk about it." They both stood up and went inside. Amanda went and pulled 2 cokes out of the fridge, she walked back into the living room and plopped down next to Brian on the couch. "Ok, so tell me what happened?" she asked, quietly running her hands up and down his back in a comforting motion. He put his head in his hands and rubbed his eyes "I don't even know. Last night we were fine, she stayed over and then this morning I wake up and she is grabbing all her clothes and stuff that she kept here for when she slept over and putting them in bags. All she could say was 'it's just not working out'. That was it, the only explaination I got." Amanda sighed, she knew in her heart how much Brian had cared for Amy and she knew that he was really upset. After a few minutes of Brian venting to Amanda she quietly stood up "well, I think you might want to be alone. If you need me, just call, anytime." she started walking out the door but was stopped by his hand on her shoulder. "C'mon don't go. Stay and we will watch a movie and order dinner. Like old times" he said giving her the best puppy dog look he could. Amanda knew that Brian really didn't want to be alone. Granted her and him hadn't spent a lot of time together lately due to Amy's overwhelming jealousy, maybe it would do them both some good to spend a few hours hanging out. Brian studied the DVD's he had in the cabinet of the entertainment center "how about..... Ace Ventura?" he asked pulling the DVD out of it's spot. Amanda gave him a slight nod. They decided on Chinese and ordered from this great little place in town. They ate supper and then quickly snuggled up on the couch with his fluffy nascar blanket. Brian quietly put his head in Amanda's lap. She remembered how close they used to be, before Amy had come into the picture. Everyone said that they were joined at the hip. Amanda ran her hands through Brian's hair, she knew that it had always calmed him down. He closed his eyes and smiled, "I kinda missed this Mandy, I mean, us being friends and hanging out". Amanda smirked, "me too Bri" she said. They both fell asleep before the end of the movie. |
