Chapter 12

Brian was in so much shock, he couldnt believe that Mandy was awake. He watched as the doctors hovered over her, her eyes peering at him, looking so helpless. The only thing he wanted to do was run to her and wrap his arms around her, to protect her from any harm.

The doctors finished with Mandy. Mr. Vickers, Do you mind if I speak to Ms. Nichols alone? Dr. Mariana asked. Brian nodded and walked out into the hall.

After about 10 minutes, the doctor finally emerged from Mandys room. He nodded at Brian and smiled. Brian pushed open the door, and walked in.

Manda was sitting on the bed, her head in her hands. Mandy was leaning up against the pillows, her shoulders shaking. Brian could immediately tell she was crying. He rushed over to her and sat down beside her.

He wrapped his arms around her and pulled her to him. She let herself fall into his arms, wetting his shirt with her tears. Baby, whats wrong? he asked, rubbing her back for comfort. Mandy couldnt answer she was sobbing too hard.

After a couple of minutes her sobs died down. She had clamed down enough to tell Brian. The doctor said that. She began to cry again. In between sobs, Mandy was able to get it all out He said I may never have kids.

Brian continued to hold her, trying to find the right words to say. Manda you have so many years before you need to think about kids. And they didnt say it was impossible Brian said in a soothing voice. Mandy knew Brian was right; she had so much time to worry about children

1 year later

Brian? Mandy yelled out into the coach. She had over slept, well, Brian didnt wake her up. She understood his reasoning; he really didnt even want her in the pits. She had been sick; with what Brian thought was the flu now for about a week and a half. Brian had told her to stay in the coach and watch it on TV.

Mandy assumed that Brian had already headed out for the day. She quickly showered and got dressed, grabbing her hat and sunglasses as she went out the door.

Manda slowly made her way down pit road. She found Brian leaning against his race car, talking to JJ and Chandra. Hey you he said, wrapping his arm around her and pulling her to his side. The group stood there talking for a few minutes until the boys were given the go ahead to get into their cars. Mandy kissed him good luck and stood on her tip toes to whisper in his ear get the first win for me today.

Brian smiled and slid himself into the car. Since the accident last year Manda and Brian had moved in together. They were inseparable. She went with him to every photo shoot, appearance, and race.

She would be there, up on the pit box, screaming when he would be in contention for the lead. He still hadnt won a race, but Mandy had a feeling that it was his lucky day today.

Amanda watched the race, her fingers crossed, from on top of the pit box. She wanted Brian to win so badly, she wanted to take him out to celebrate and give Brian the surprise she had been waiting to give him.

Manda jumped up and down as Brian took the checkers. She hopped off the pit box and bee lined it for victory lane. She watched, happily, as Bri climbed out of his car, standing on the window and throwing his hands up in the air.

Once he got down, he immediately grabbed Manda, hugging her with all he could. You did it, I am so proud of you she said, pulling away and kissing him on the cheek.

Mandy waited around as Bri did his interviews and the infamous hat dance. She remembered back to when they were just friends and Brian had won the Busch champion.
After they left Victory Circle, Mandy and Brian headed back to the coach. He wanted to change and shower before he gave Mandy her surprise. Brian had waited a long time to give her this.

His nerves took over as the two of them drove down the coastline. They parked on the side of the road and walked down to the beach. Mandy took his hands and looked at him Bri she started, he stopped her. Wait I need to give you something he smiled.

He reached down in his pocket and pulled out a black velvet box. I have been waiting for months to give this to you. I always said I would do it after my first win. Brian knelt down in front of Mandy. Her eyes teared up; she couldnt believe this was happening tonight.

Amanda Nichols, I have been in love with you since we were kids, in the sandbox at school. You have always been my best friend and now I want you to be my wife he said, taking the ring out of the box. He slid it on her finger and she let out a gasp.

Will you marry me? he asked, his blue eyes glowing. Yes she whispered pulling him up to her. She wrapped her arms around his neck and smiled I dont think you could have picked a more perfect night she said.

Brian looked at her confused, What do you mean? he asked. Well, tonight I brought you out here to tell you that you will soon be a daddy she smiled.

It took Brian a few seconds to comprehend. Oh god he smiled, kissing Manda on her forehead. This night couldnt be any better he said, wrapping Mandy in a hug. I have my soon to be wife and my soon to be baby he smiled, touching Manda on her stomach.
