| Chapter 6 Kale what are you doing? I asked as he hopped into my rental car. Im going with you. You have been acting weird all weekend and I want to see where you keep running off too he stated firmly. Kasey just shook his head You are not going with me now get out of my truck he said. Kale stood firm and wouldnt budge. Kasey finally got agitated and got out, digging in his pocket for his cell. He flipped it open and dialed the number he had already memorized. Hello? Kat answered, after just walking through the door hands full of groceries. Hey its me Kasey said, a little but of agitation in his voice. Whats wrong? Kat asked, setting the bags on the counter. Kale, he wants to go wherever i'm going, says that I am being Weird and he wants to find out why Kasey huffed; Kat could tell that it was pissing him off. She thought for a minute, Kale had always been the nosey one. Alright, bring him. But only if you think he can keep the secret she said reluctantly. Are you sure? Kasey said, knowing that Kat might not be ready. Kat told him it was fine and started to put up her groceries, leaving out what she was making for dinner. About 15 minutes later, Kat heard the front door open and the unmistakable voice of Kale Kahne. She smirked, listening to the conversation between the brothers. Obviously, Kasey hadnt told him where they were going. You here? Kasey yelled, walking in towards the living room. Kat walked out and met them, laughing as Kales face showed a look of confusion. Kale she greeted, waiting for him to put two and two together. When he did she saw the look of confusion turn into one of shock. There is no way Kale said, his eyes as big as dinner plates. Yeah there is she said, smacking him playfully on the arm. Kale smiled, putting his arms around Kat and swinging her around. What the hell! I thought my brother was losing his marbles the other day at the mall! Kale exclaimed, still dangling her in the air. Well he is, but not about seeing me Kat smiled as she saw Kasey laughing at the interaction between Kat and his brother. Once Kale released her, she walked over to Kasey. Wrapping her arms around him she gave him a small hug. Kat felt his body tense up, and knew it was from the kiss yesterday. Ok so does someone want to start explaining everything to me? Kale asked, curious as to why his brothers best friend had returned from the dead. Kasey sat down and started explaining everything to Kale, while Kat started on supper. ***** So basically you are hiding? Kale asked, looking up from his plate of Lasagna. Basically, thats why you cant tell anyone you know me or have seen me. As far as you are concerned I am still and always will be dead. Kat answered. Kale gave an understanding nod and looked over at Kasey who had been oddly quiet most of the night. Whats up Kase? Kat asked, watching him push his Lasagna into a pile. Nothing he answered, still not looking up from his plate. Ok Kat said, looking over at Kale who just shrugged his shoulders. After supper, Kale helped Kat put the dishes away while Kasey sat at the table, still silent. Quickly finishing the dishes, Kat walked over to where Kasey was sitting. Ok Kasey lets go. She stated, pulling him off the chair. Where? Kasey asked, stumbling forward. Kat didnt answer, just pulled him towards the back patio. When Kasey was finally through the door, she shut it and motioned for him to sit. He obliged, but showing signs of protest along the way. Kat chuckled at how stubborn he could be. Kat walked over and sat down next to him, propping her legs up on another chair. So are you playing Charlie Chaplin with me tonight or what? Kat asked, looking over at Kasey who was just staring out into the woods. No, I just have a lot on my mind he stated. Like? Kat asked, waiting to hear his response. Kasey took a deep breath, deciding on how exactly to put everything into words. Well, its just everything. I mean its all so overwhelming, having you back and then last night the kiss and all Kasey let it all out in one sentence. Kat chuckled as she reached over and grabbed Kaseys hand. Look if the kiss made you THAT uncomfortable, lets just forget about it. Kasey just sighed and kept staring. Ok since that issue is handled, was that all? Kat asked, wanting to go back inside. Yeah I guess Kasey answered standing up. They both walked back in and joined Kale who was watching Tombstone. Nope Kat said, taking the remote from him. Kasey laughed when she did, remembering her protest over watching it the other night. *** Kasey im getting kinda tired, you about ready to head back to the track? Kale asked, rubbing his eyes. Kasey looked up at the clock and saw that it was already 11:30. How about you take my truck and I will be back later, that is if Kat doesnt mind taking me back to the track Kasey answered, looking over at her. No problem at all, im really not that tired she responded, flipping through the TV channels. Kasey walked Kale out and Kat stayed inside. When Kasey came back in, Kat wasnt in the living room where he had last seen her. He called out her name, but got no answer. He walked towards her bedroom and noticed the door was cracked. He heard her talking to someone and stopped. No Danny, I cant. Not tonight ok? Maybe tomorrow I will call you then. Love you too, bye, Kasey quickly made his way back to the living room and threw himself on the couch. Hey whered you go? he asked as Kat made her way back into the living room. I just had to make a phone call she answered, sitting down next to Kasey. They sat in silence for a few minutes, watching Jay Lenos monologue. Kase, why did that kiss last night bother you so much? Kat asked randomly. It didnt bother me, at all. In fact I liked it he answered quietly, trying not to let her see him blush. Well then why did you say that stuff earlier? she asked, turning in her seat to face him. Kasey just shrugged I think I was protecting myself, I mean I dont know he said, agitation becoming apparent in his voice. He looked up at her, not knowing if he should follow through with the idea that was dancing in his head. He took a chance and leaned in to her, letting his lips brush softly against hers. Kat closed her eyes and let all doubt she had in her mind go. She let her fingers intertwine with his as their tongues danced together. What the hell? a males voice said from behind them. Kasey and Kat broke apart and both turned. Kats eyes got wide when she saw who it was. Bolting up, she ran out the door after him, leaving Kasey sitting on the couch wondering if that was Danny.
