The next series of pictures are from our visit to Carcassonne, a medieval city about one hour away from Toulouse. One extremely large castle pretty much encompasses the entire city. The castle dates back to the 12th century and has been occupied by many kings whom one by one kept adding additions to the castle, hence now this massive, ancient structure. Today, inside the castle, there is a small city with shops, hotels, and restaurants (so that gives you an idea of just how massive this castle is). |
