STUDENT BODIES
ICON:

ICON is a consulting body that allows IIMB students to take up live projects in the industry and thereby gain first hand experience. ICON members are responsible for handling and co-ordination of the projects. Students willing to undertake the rigors of project work ,apply for the same and the project team is selected based on the requirements of the project. There is also a minimum compensation that students get on successful completion of a project. However, the focus is more on an active interaction with the industry than on profits.

Post Script:
I did not have much to do with ICON or consulting for that mater. Not that I could have done much anyways. I think there was one project that we did for ICON. A consulting project wherein we advised a doctor on how to adapt marketing 1.0 principles to his clinic (complete with basic excel charts and a colorful powerpoint presentation). My first(and probably last) consulting assignment (Yeah I was paid for it). Thank you ICON.

NETWORTH:

This club is for the financial wizards who aspires , in the near future, to turn the world of investment banking upside down with their radical thoughts.(Unfortuantely, I am not one of them). Networth is probably one of the more active clubs in the institute. The club regularly conducts workshops and finance games that provides one with an opportunity to make some cash. After all, Money Matters and Networth seem to realize this very well.

PostScript:
I had nothing to do with Networth during my two year stay in IIMB. It was very early in my IIMB days that I discoverred that I was totally hopeless when it came to money matters and discounted cash formulas. Unfortunately, I am still not able to come to terms with 'fin fundas' and my cash flow problems continues to this day. Hopefully, I will do better in the days to come. Amen!!

MASH:

Mash is the club for the aspiring maketing gurus. Mash also conduts lively workshops on diverse themes ranging from Advertisements to Brand Management. This is probably the most popular club in campus ( strictly unofficial), if one is to judge by the membership strength.

Post Script:
MaSh (Marketing Shrine) was one of the clubs that I was attracted to from the very beginning. Firstly, because I was in love with Marketing 1.0 (Thats Philip Kotler)and secondly because there was no limit on the member size. By virtue of my exceptional contribution (I revamped the MaSh website), I was designated as an Executive Committee member in the Second year. However, inspite of my best efforts, I ended up attending only the MaSh farewell party. I am however pretty sure that had I devoted enough time to MaSh activities, I would have definitely entered the 'MaSh Hall of fame'. Somethings, however, do not happen as you want them to be. MaSh, unfortunately, was one of them.

SAC:

Yeah, you got it right. SAC does stand for "Students Amenities Centre" and it is fully run ( or should I say "managed") by students. SAC is the one stop solution for us IIMbian-from soaps to shuttles, if you need it SAC has it. Each student has a SAC account and all his expenses are deleted from the account at the end of the month (and this includes Fines and T-shirt bills).

Post script:
I actually visited the SAC twice during my two year stay in IIMB. I am a simple person and can survive on the bare necessities. That meant SAC was way off my radar screen in IIMB.

SIGMA:

Sigma is the club for the "neurally inspired" (I coined this term just now) people - I mean people who are in love with the nitty gritty of networks and stuff. Sigma is responsible for co-coordinating between the Wipro Help Desk at the computer centre and the students. If anyone has an issue about the Computer Centre, then Sigma comes into the picture. The more important activities of Sigma include enabling "e-voting" during elections and "e-bidding" for courses from the 5th term onwards.

Post script:
I was a member of Sigma and had a blast of time in being a part of it. Sigmaites deal with mundane matters like blocking your friend's account because of spam mails, supervising elections and bidding and supporting placement committee during placements. That means we were one of the more powerful people in IIMB (right after the President and Placement committee) by virtue of the information asymmetry that we (Presi, Place Com, Acad Council and Sigma) deliberately created. But it was good while it lasted. We had countless meetings debating 'ethics','transparency' and what not. But at the end of the day, I suspect and with good measure, all of us who were part of that elite club enjoyed the position of pre-eminence in the IIMB world.
