RECT

Campus Life - The lighter side

Entrance
Welcome to RECT! If you're looking for a paradise on earth , rule RECT out from the possibilities. Its very hot in summer. The campus is large (960 acres) and it has about a dozen trees.  Young plants rarely survive the combination of searing heat and the omnipresent hungry cows and bulls on campus (You read that right - cows and bulls on campus!). What endeared us to those brown patches of sun baked earth, the cows, the scarce trees - we will never know . Maybe it was the Shades in the evening. Maybe it was our friends. Maybe...

Library
A trip to the library  meant assignments and going through dusty volumes of  archaic research journals - not a very pleasant endeavor on a balmy afternoon when you should be having your afternoon siesta. The library had its uses of course - for the lover boys and girls who cootchied and cooed in and around the library.

The Octagon
There are very few computer centers in educational institutions in India which can stand upto "The Octagon" - undoubtedly the pride of RECT. "Dare to Dream" was etched large on the entrance - and we did dream. Octa was the last refuge from the searing heat and it also housed the only cooler in Rect which provided 24 hours cold water.

Temple
The temple was located in a far corner of the campus - providing sugary sweet girls and boys a chance to enjoy their evening walks which would end only when the girls hostel was about to be closed. Incidentally, the temple was built by students.

Canteen
We engineers can survive on any diet - thanks to the "Mess-food" that we gulp down . The RECT Mess was no better but thankfully the canteen was there. Not that the food there was something out of the ordinary. But at least we knew what we ordered and the food that was served  - surprise, surprise- had some resemblance to what we had actually ordered. Can you ask for anything more ????
