The development and growth of the Temple town of Nanganallur, Chennai-61, Tamil Nadu, India, owes its origin first to Sri Varasiddhi Vinayakar and with His benedictions, the Nanganallur Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Samajam was formed on 26th January, 1990, to serve the cause of Traditional, Classical, Carnatic Music, and the prime object is to inculcate Bhakthi through Nadayoga.

To inbibe the outstanding and the innate aesthetic acumen, and to induce the young minds even in physically handicapped and the poor, in and around Nanganallur, to learn and understand the nuances of Music-Vocal, Mirudangam, Bharatanatyam, Veena , Violin, the Samajam accommodates competent teachers to impart knowledge in the fine arts for the benefit of the interested students of music, by providing the basic amenities.

An audio cassette library is maintained to enable the members to listen to the recordings of the concerts of the musicians of the past and present. The Samajam lends a helping hand to the organizers in Nanganallur social, religious, cultural to utilize the hall "Ranjani" for conducting their programmes with the prior permission accorded by the owners of the Ranjani Hall.

The Samajam is rapidly progressing with the blessings of Bhagavathas of Nanganallur Sathguru Bhajan Mandali, who used to render Namasankeerthanam, on the second Saturday of every month, in Ranjani Hall.

In addition to the monthly Baghula Panchami concert, a couple of concerts are arranged every month. Every year, the Samajam is hosting about 60-70 concerts of proficient musicians and upcoming artists and series of spiritual discourses during the summer, Navarathri and Marghazhi, coinciding with the Music festival through out the city of Chennai in the month of December and January. The visiting artists hail the hospitality offered to them by the samajam.

Every year, Rama Navami, Gokulashtami, Navarathri, Vinayaka Chaturthi, Skanda Shashti, Marghazhi Vizha and Sankranthi are celebrated with pomp and splendour. It is but appropriate to mention that Samajams regular concerts and festivals are funded out of the donations and subscriptions and no money is collected through the sale of tickets. During Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana Anna Sandarpanam - feeding of hundreds of rasikas, devotees, public and also the poor is a unique feature.

The Samajam celebrates its Anniversary, Sri Thygaraja Aradhana and Music festival in grandeur, presided over by a galaxy of distinguished personalities and eminent Musicians with the participation of many Industrialists.

To promote the fortitude of young artists Aruna Geetham - meaning the Music of Dawn, has been initiated, continued and in the long run this will bring into the limelight the hidden talent of the youth.

The Music competition namely Arohi [ascending] for komalam and Mrudhulam [for Sub juniors and juniors] respectively are held annually in the month of January every year and handsome prizes are awarded to the winners and also to the participants for encouragement .
