A tour of the potholes, and back in Zurich
We checked out of Backpackers Lucerne early the in the morning, left our luggage in the hostel like the day before, and went to check if we could take a cruise for less than 20 francs.. Vinay and I were both running out of money. But the weather was still cloudy and depressingly foggy, we could hardly even make out the mountains by the lake, let alone the buildings in the city.. plus, when we got to the dockyard or jetty or launchpoint or whatever you call it, we found out the cruises were for 24 francs. I think Vinay was still a little in favour of going and I kind of dissuaded him - just couldn't afford the thing. So we went back to the hostel for a spot of breakfast.. Vinay finished off the rice and sabzis from yesterday and I had a couple of wonderful slices of bread with amazing cheese and cereal and hot chocolate and what not. Breakfast buffet, I ate till I split. Sigh. I was going to miss it.. the bread most of all. I can't stand white bread now.. other kinds of bread are so much tastier.. and I don't mean the awful wholemeal bread we get around here.
We stuck to plan B and went to the Glacier Garden museum. For the first time in Switzerland we actually got a student discount: we paid 7 francs instead of 17 for the entry. It was totally worth it.
(Alright, signing off now, will update later. Meanwhile, here are some photos of what we saw and did on the last day.)
Clockwise from top: Imprint of a palm leaf on stone, sandstone (literally.. the ripples you see were made by the sea water), fossil of a snail shell, starfish fossil, one of the glacial potholes and the whole pothole yard that was uncovered.
Always feed birds naked.
