| One of the distinguishing features of a true Prophet is the nature of his prophecies and the truth manifested in them. Not only did Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) convey to us in the quran, prophecies which were later fulfilled, but also communicated some information about future events in his preaching. Let us examine the veracity of these claims to reach a valid conclusion. Claim 1) The Holy Quran mentions the lowest part of the Earth and states that it is near Jerusalem. It is here that a battle took place between the Persians and the Romans. Allah, may he be Exalted and Glorified, said in the Quran: 30:2 The Romans have been defeated. 30:3 In the nearer land (Syria, Iraq, Jordan and Palestine), and they, after their defeat, will be victorious. 30:4 Within 3 to 9 years. The decision of the matter, before and after (these events) is only with Allah, (before the defeat of Romans by the Persians, and after, i.e. the defeat of the Persians by the Romans). And on that day, the believers (i.e. Muslims) will rejoice (at the victory given by Allah to the Romans against the Persians), The term "adna" means both nearer and lowest. The commentators of the Quran were of the opinion that "adnal ardh" meant the nearest land to the Arabian Peninsula. However the second meaning is also there. In this way, one word expresses several correct meanings in the Quran. Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said " I have been given the most comprehensive words". When the lowest part of the Earth was investigated. It was found out to be the exact same spot that witnessed the battle where the Romans were defeated. Also, Abu Bakr (the first Caliph of Islam, may Allah be pleased with him) was so sure of the truth of these words, that he made a bet (at that time betting was lawful) with the idolaters. They asked him to set a time limit and he agreed that 5 - 6 years was sufficient. After about 5 years, he went to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) and informed him about the situation. The Messenger (pbuh) replied "why do you make it less than - (a narrator thinks he (pbuh) said) 10" In the seventh year, THE PROPHECY CAME TRUE. Claim 2) In a dream, the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) saw himself entering Makkah and performing Tawaf around the house. He (pbuh) told his companions about this dream when he was still in Al-Madinah. When they went to Al-Makkah in the year of Al-Hudaybiyyah, none of them doubted that the vision of the Prophet (pbuh) would come true that year. When the treaty of peace was conducted and they had to return to Al-Madinah that year, being allowed to return to Makkah the next year, some of the companions disliked what happened. Umar bin Al Khattab (the second Caliph of Islam) aked about this, saying " Haven't you told us that we will go to the House and perform Tawaf (circumambulation) around it?" The Messenger of Allah said " Yes, but did I tell you that we will visit the Kaaba this year? The reply was in the negative. So he (pbuh) said " So you will visit it and perform Tawaf around it" Umar further said "I went to Abu Bakr and said O Abu Bakr, isn't he truly Allah's Prophet?" He replied yes. Umar further stated " Then why should we be humble in our religion? He replied " Indeed he is Allah's Apostle and he (pbuh) does not disobey his lord, and He will make him victorious. Continued |
