Welcome Below are terms used in wrestling that may or may not be known to you. If you don't, here's the place to be. More added as they are known
ANGLE: A wrestling plot or story line. BABY FACE: A good guy. BLADE JOB: When a wrestler cuts him self in order to draw blood. BLIND REFEREE: When a referee misses heel tactics or is distracted by a valet or manager at ringside and missing the action inside. BLOW UP: To become fatigued or exhausted. BOOKER: The individual responsible for angles, finishes, hiring and firing in a promotion. CALLING: To tell your opponent what the next move will be. (HHH is VERY good at it :) CARRY: Help bring the workrate up against a lesser opponent. CHEAP HEAT: To generate heat by using the microphone to praise or bash fans and/or their town. CLEANS HOUSE: When a wrestler eliminates every other man in the ring. CLEAN JOB: A loss by legal pinfall or submission without resorting to illegalities. BUMP: A fall or hit done as a spot (see spot) which takes the wrestler (or other participant, i.e; referee, manager) out of the ring or out of action. CANNED HEAT: Taped crowd noise played over the loud speakers. i.e. The "Goldberg" chant in WCW. CARD: The matches for one nights show. DRAW: To attract marks. n. the popularity of a wrestler, the ability to bring in marks. DUD: Aparticularly bad and totally uninteresting match. FACE: A good guy, fan favorite. FALL: A referee's count of three with the loser's shoulders on the mat. FINISH: The event or sequence of events which leads to the ultimate outcome of a match. GARBAGE: Matches or promotions that have no wrestling but pure violence. GIMMICK: A persona that a wrestler is given. GREEN: Not good due to inexperience. (the) HARD WAY: As in, "Juice the hard way". To be legitimately cut, not by a blade. HEAT: Loud reaction from the crowd ( cheers or boos ). HEAT MACHINE: Taped crowd noise played over the loud speakers. i.e. The "Goldberg" chant in WCW. HEEL: A bad guy, non-fan favorite . HIGH SPOT: A particularly acrobatic or high flying move. HOUSE: The wrestling audience in the building said to be composed of marks. INTERNATIONAL OBJECT: A foreign object, something not allowed in the ring. Used by WCW to be politically correct. JOB: To take a loss . JOBBER: A wrestler who jobs on a regular basis, an unpushed wrestler. Jobber to the stars (JTTS): Mid-card wrestler who jobs to all the big name superstars. JUICE: Blood, to bleed, usually as a result of blading. KAYFABE: Of or related to inside information about the business. Carny jargon for "fake." KILL: Diminish or eliminate heat or drawing power. LIGHT: Not connecting with punches/kicks. MARK: A fan, someone who thinks wrestling is real and/or believes the story lines OVER: Accepted by the fans; generates a lot of heat. PAPER: Complimentary tickets. POP: A sudden, loud cheer from the crowd in response to a wrestler's entry or hot move. POTATO: To injure a wrestler by hitting him on the head or causing him to hit his head on something. PUSH: To give a wrestler a series of matches that will improve his standing in the fans eyes. REST HOLD: A hold use for both wrestlers to get rest during the match. RUN-IN: Interference by a non-participant in a match. SAVE: A run-in to protect a wrestler from being beat up after a match is over. SCREW JOB: A match ending in a DQ or count out, not a clean win. SELL: "To sell a move", meaning to act hurt when a move has been applied. To make an opponent's move look legitimate. SHILL: A columnist or writer who is biased against a rival organization, when they are suppsed to be impartial. (eg. JR) SHOOT: The real thing, really attempting to hurt the other wrestler, opposite of work or fake. A "SHOOT INTERVIEW" is when a wrestler is unscripted , and talks about real issues. SMART: A fan of wrestling who knows everything. Hense, this page is totally useless to them. SMART MARK A fan of wrestling who knows everything, but enjoys it as much as any mark would. (naidO falls into this category.) SPOT: An event or sequence of events which makes a particular match distinctive, a high-point of a match. SQUASH: When one wrestler dominates the other wrestler throughout the entire match. STABLE: A group of wrestler's united to watch each other's backs. STIFF: A wrestler who cannot manuever around the ring very swiftly; he doesn't have much flexibility or stamina. To make a punch, chair shot, etc. look real. To really hit a wrestler hard. STRETCH: A form of shoot where one wrestler dominates rather than injures the other as a proof of personal superiority. TO PUT OVER: To do the job to help your opponent get a push. TURN: To go from heel to face or from face to heel. WORK: An angle attempted to look real, fake. "Wanna Be": A wrestler who tries way too hard to impress, thus hurting his push WORKRATE: The approximate ratio of good wrestling to rest holds in a match.
