Utility Monitoring
HF utility monitoring is listening to various two-way communications heard on the shortwave bands.  Utility monitoring can be more challenging than regular shortwave broadcast listening in that transmissions will usually be shorter and harder to catch, often without set schedules.  I find utility monitoring much more enjoyable than listening to shortwave broadcast stations.  Broadcast listening is fine, but it just doesn't match the excitement of listening to milcoms, search & rescue operations, or finding an odd, new station.  There is always something interesting to listen to.
