Bienvenidos! As an education enabler, Martha E.S. Buchanan, currently holds the position of Student Succes Professional assisting the Dean of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Conrad Krueger. Ms. Buchanan is key in writing and preparing academic accords at San Antonio College. Ms. Buchanan provides technical and professional support to Department Chairs/Coordinators and the departmental infrastructure (a.k.a., the "Backbone") of twenty-one disciplines of the Division of Arts and Sciences. She assists scholastic withdrawal students and the committee of academic review, she serves to resolve disputes, and implements policies and procedures under a shared governance structure. After years of juggling educational facilitation and supporting higher education programs, she found new joy in infusing technology into the paper process. By implementing cross-integrated systems and software applications into assessment and information access - she has turned crunching numbers and demonstrating trends into a preferred art form. She has served on several campus committees and as an engaged board member for Service-Learning. She is a current board member of the Renaissance Guild theatre group in San Antonio. She is a three-time recipient of the Alamo Community College District Upward Mobility grant, and was selected Employee of the Month for March 2005 for SAC and, again, for the entire Alamo Community College District. She is an active member of the Alamo Heroes Daughters of the Republic of Texas, Sigma Tau Delta, and Kappa Delta Epsilon, is a former co-editor of the online poetry literary magazine Becoming, and continues to serve as web master for the San Antonio Chapter of the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE). She is a supporting member of the San Antonio Theatre Coalition (SATCO), and Texas Public Radio. She has a recurring radio show, "Arts," for OWL radio and regularly reads for the low-vision club on Sundays. You may have seen her doing calligraphy for the Family Name Heritage Booth at the Texas Folklife Festival where for over the last fifteen years she shouldered responsibilities with Dr. Scott Baird, Trinity University, and Dr. Fred Tarpley, TAMU-Commerce. She intermittently serves as a UIL critic judge of one-act plays and forensic speech tournaments. Martha is veteran Military Police having served overseas at Camp King in the 570th MP Platoon, and stateside at Ft. Knox, Kentucky with the 194th Desert Legion Platoon in the Armored Brigade. She is an outspoken, proactive mother, and creative writer. She is also an effervescent actress and engaging, collaborative director. She is a tireless volunteer and deeply involved in the San Antonio community. She has won 1st (2006) and 2nd (2005) place in the Planned Parenthood poetry slams sponsored in commemoration of Roe vs. Wade. If you can catch her, it would be at either the Josh Davis Natatorium or hiking through Comanche lookout. Otherwise, she will be at home banging away at the keyboard and playing with her mouse on the computer. She invites you to peruse this web site, and if you have any questions or comments, then please contact her by email.
