Basic Chat Do's and Don'ts

Generally speaking the same rules apply in chat as they do in any social circumstances.
Be polite and respect the feelings of others. Remember there are real people on the other end of the line.

Do - Greet everyone in the room when you enter.
Don't - Enter swearing, shouting or being abusive.
Do - Use lower case letters when typing.
Don't - Use Capitals in normal conversation, unless it is for emphasis. Using Caps is like shouting and is considered to be rude.
Do - Spend time getting to know the regular chatters in the room. Look at how they behave, and how they speak. Learn the particular room rules. Each chat site/room usually has its own set of rules and the chatters there are only to happy to help in most cases.
Don't - Expect anyone to be your best friend as soon as you arrive. Like in real life, it takes time to get to know people and trust them.
Do - Pay attention to the title of the room. Most chats have a particular theme running through the discussion. Try to keep as close to the theme as possible.
Don't - Try to change the theme of a room. If you don't like what is going on, simply leave and find a chat that suits your requirements.
Do -Protect your security. There are many people who can hack computers by obtaining information from you.
Don't - Give out your personal details, phone number, address, email,ISP,or ICQ, unless you know the person well enough to trust them with this information.
Do - Use private messages for things you or others want kept private.
Don't - Tell other information about another that you would not want told of yourself. It is much easier for rumours to be spread in chat than in real life situations.
Do - Have fun and relax, chatting is supposed to be enjoyable.

People may forget what you said
People may forget what you did
But a person will never forget how you made them feel.
