9-11 Dedication

As a roleplay community our goal is to create a somewhat believable world for our characters to inhabit when we play them. We, mostly, are so passionate about roleplay because we get a chance to get away from the heaviness of our own lives in the real world. As individuals we felt the impact of the tragic events of September 11 and as a community during our first year of creation we are now honouring the first memorial day of the attacks on America. I personally could have lost a very dear friend who was in America and who was visiting her father who worked in the very section of the Pentagon that was hit. I went through the horror of two weeks of thinking that I had lost my friend when it was confirmed she was alright. It was this reason along with my empathy for the human race on a whole that lead me to feel so compassionate about September 11 and have set up this dedication section so that we never forget what happened and do not become desensitised as we have become to so many things in this world. This is my way of honouring those who were not so lucky as I was to have my loved one found to be safe and well. Here we will put poems or our own personal thoughts and how September 11 made us feel, in honour of those who didn't come home that day.

To all the children who lost a mother or father. To all the mothers and fathers who lost a child. To all the sisters and brothers who lost their siblings. To all the mates who lost their friends. To all the workers who lost their colleauges. And to all the men and women who braved the fear they must have felt to attempt to save the lives of those trapped inside the towers and lost their lives for being every day heroes and doing their jobs.

We will never forget you.

The Day The Towers Went Down
Ive cried a million tears,
And Ill cry a million more,
And I will every year on one day,
As my heart breaks with the rest of the world.

The day the towers went down
It was late at night for me
Who were we to know
That theyd fall.

We all watched in horror
From around the globe
And joined hands
To share our pain.

You see

When I was born
And as I grew up
I learned about history
And read of events Id never witnessed.

I never thought much about
How those people must have felt
That they were just like me
When one day changed their lives.

But now I understand
How it feels to be a mortal
Watching helplessly
As tragedy strikes my world.

People like me,
We never thought that this could happen
Not in our lifetime
Not in our learned lifestyle.

And yet

When Im older
And have children of my own
Theyll sit in school
And learn history too.

Theyll look at the pictures
Theyll read the words
And theyll be like I was
Innocent to the past.

Theyll come home and ask me
Mummy, where were you
The day the towers went down?
And howd you feel as you watched?

Theyll look at me and ask
Mummy why do you cry
When were not American?
What should 9-11 mean to us Mummy?

And Ill sit there
And hold them close to my heart.
And kiss their hair
And this is what Ill say to them.

I cry for the lives that were lost.
I cry for the way they were lost.
I cry for the innocence the world lost.
On that day in September.

I cry for the hearts that were broken,
The families whose happiness was stolen,
I cry for the children
Whose Mummy or Daddy didnt come home.

And I know
That when those towers went down
I changed
And I can now call myself part of the human race.

Because I feel the pain
Because I feel the tragedy
Because I will never forget or accept
What happened the day the towers went down.

So now

My only hope and only prayer
Is every year in September when I light a candle
That my children understand why
And see that day through their mothers eyes

Because now Ill be the Mummy who saw it,
Who feels it, who remembers it
Like the ones in the history books
Because it broke my heart and so many others.

So theyll never let themselves forget
What was lost and what was found
And that they teach their children
The lesson I learned that day in September

The day the towers went down.
