Mrs. Quigby looked out her window and smiled. It was a rainy day. How perfect, she thought. This will be a great day for my rainbow plan. Mrs. Quigby was a very nice school teacher who had a very nice idea. She had been dreaming of her rainbow plan for weeks. All of the 2nd graders at Lilly rock Elementary School loved Mrs. Quigby. They knew that each day would be special. Sometimes they would get to count with jelly beans and gum drops. If they were very good, Mrs. Quigby would let them eat some of the delicious candy.

The last time it rained she made cupcakes for them to eat. Today would be special too. She hurried to her closet to get her rainbow umbrella. It was a large umbrella with bright rainbow colors. Digging into a plastic bag, she pulled out a funny clown wig. The wig was green, yellow, pink, and blue. The wonderful teacher put on her favorite dress with the colored letters on it. She picked up the silly wig, put it on her head, and did a funny dance. When she looked into her mirror, a big smile was on her face. "Rainbow Day" step one," she said. She picked up another large bag from the closet, put on her yellow raincoat and opened her front door. Her large umbrella was very bright compared to the gray day. Mrs. Quigby was singing in her car, when she drove into the Lilly Rock Elementary School parking lot.

The school buses would be arriving soon. Mrs. Quigby hurried to her classroom to get everything ready. She had 23 students in her class. When she planned a special day, it was important that she had enough for everyone. She placed a different colored piece of construction paper on each desk. The buses had arrived and her students started filing into the room. "Oh boy", shouted Shantel. "Are we going to have a special day, today?" She was very excited and jumped around her desk. Shantel and some of the other children started to laugh. They were looking at Mrs. Quigby's silly clown wig. "How do you like my new hairstyle," she asked, laughing with them. When she placed a handful of colored beads on each of their desks they all giggled. Mrs. Quigby picked up her colored chalk, and wrote on the green chalk board. RAINBOW DAY
Now class, I want you to get out your paste and I'll hand out the paints. Don't forget to put on your work smocks." Mrs. Quigby didn't want them to mess up their good clothes. Everyone worked very hard to have the best rainbow. Their favorite teacher thought that all of the rainbow paintings were the best. She put them all on her special bulletin board for their parents to see. There was to be a parent's day coming soon. All of the children were very proud. "Look!" said Mike, "the sun is coming out." All of the students ran to the windows to look outside. Mrs. Quigby smiled one of her very best smiles. Painted across the sky was the most beautiful RAINBOW ! Mrs. Quigby's rainbow day was a big success.
