This is a dress made from ELD 307, view 5. Rather than a sweater twinset, I made it into a dress with a jacket over it. I used the skirt pattern that comes with ELD 307 as a guide on how much to lengthen the underlay and back by matching up the waistline of the skirt and the waistline on the top and cut it as all one piece. I cut one long back and then cut a separate back piece the same length as the front overlays, so it looked like a real jacket all the way around instead of just in the front. I sewed all the pieces together following the same instructions for the shirt, there were just two layers on the back instead of the one. The "jacket" is sewn in at the shoulder seams to the rest of the dress. You can't see it in this picture, but the button on the front is covered with the same fabric as the dress.
The fabric is a really stretchy, synthetic knit of some sort. I don't really know what it's called - it's kind of similar to slinky, but not as heavy. I found it at Hancock's after it had been marked down to $1.59 a yard! |
