Feedback: Send, or I quit writing. Sorry, but I'm just a little upset that with my last fic Envy, even though it was a one part thing, I didn't get a single response

Note:It does get better and longer after this part. Just wanted to get the time frame established.

Maria slowly opened the door to her house. It wasn't that late, only near midnight, and school was done for the summer. She had been at Liz's, giving her a shoulder to cry, or rather sob, on. Another one had bit the dust. They were all back to the way they used to be, except for the broken hearts they carried around.

Maria kicked off her sandals and padded into the kitchen. "Is that you Maria?" she heard her mother call from the living room where she was watching TV.

"No mom, it's burglar," she called back, opening the fridge, trying to find something decent to drink.

"Very funny," Amy DiLucca said, coming into the kitchen. She took a seat at the table. "So where've you been?"

"It's only midnight mom," Maria replied, pulling the near empty carton of milk from the fridge.

"I was just asking," Amy said defensively, holding up her hands.

Maria sighed as she reached for a glass. "I was at Liz's. She's going through a major breakup, as am I."

Amy's head shot up. "What are you talking about?"

Maria shook her head. "Well, I'm not sure. It's complicated."

Then she thought back to the adamance Michael had shown when he told her to go. The absolute conviction he had that he was doing the right thing. "Actually, it's not complicated," she said, taking a sip of the milk and hopping up on the counter. "Suffice it to say you won't have any worries about finding Michael in my bed again."

Her mom raised her eyebrows, "I thought you said before I wasn't going to have any worry."

"You know what I mean," Maria said, shaking her head. "Michael and I are through. For good."

"Maybe he'll come around sweetie," Amy said sympathetically as Maria chugged down the last of her milk and wiped her hand across her mouth.

"I doubt it," Maria said, rising her glass.

"I guess I should be on the lookout because last time you said he wouldn't come around, I had the shock of my life. That's not true Maria. I saw the way he looked at you, and come on, he wrestled for you. That guy cares."

"That's the problem mom," Maria said sarcastically, as she left the room. "He claims he loves me too much for me to stick around."

She went into her room, and flopped on the bed. Maria really wasn't all that tired, not yet. Getting up at noon didn't allow for an early bedtime.

Sighing, she reached over and flipped on her radio. There wasn't a hell of a lot she could do right now.

I would walk to the edge of the universe for you
Paint you a crimson sunset over sheltering skies
I could learn all the world dialects for you
Whisper sonnets in your ear discovering truth
I could never worship pagan gods around me
I will only follow the path that leads me to you baby... always

Every step I take for you I will always defend, never pretend
That every breath I take for love
I could never be wrong, the journey is long
With miles to go before I sleep,
miles to go before I sleep...

I would carry the rock of Gibraltar just for you
Lifted like a pebble from the beach to the skies
I could build you a bridge that spans the ocean wide
But the greatest gift I give you would be to stand by your side
Some can criticize and sit in judgment of us
But they can't take away the love that lives inside us always

Every step I take for you I will always defend, never pretend
That every breath I take for love
I could never be wrong, the journey is long
With miles to go before I sleep, miles to go before I sleep...

I won't run from the changing signs along the highway
Let the rivers flow to the highest ground created

Maria whacked the radio off the dresser.
