They all woke up early the next morning when the crazy beeping noise on Alex's watch went off. After receiving 3 pillows thrown at him, he shut it off, but it was too late, they were awake.

When Maria came out of the bathroom, dressed in borrowed clothes from Isabel, she ran into Michael. She kept her head lowered, gathering herself, making the tears go away.

"Sorry," he mumbled in his nonchalant way, trying not to stare at her in Isabel's clothes. She didn't fit out the tops as well as Is did.

In return, he was treated to an angry glare that would have shot him dead if looks could kill. He wondered what was eating her. Or at least, what more had gone wrong. He was more surprised when she elbowed past him, and he caught a blow in his ribs. He thought he heard her mumble 'go to hell', but he wasn't sure.

It took all of Maria's will to smile and thank Isabel for lending her the clothes. After all, it was just last night she had seen Is kissing her boyfriend. Correction, ex-boyfriend. This was the first time she had really thought of him that way. But, it wasn't Isabel's fault. Michael was a big boy. He made his own decisions.

"Let's go buy ourselves some clothes," Maria said to Liz, grabbing some cash from her wallet. "We can't exist forever borrowing stuff from Isabel. Although we wouldn't have to if someone wasn't so selfish."

"Okay, let's go," Liz said quickly before Tess could respond, then turned to the others. "We'll be back in a little while."

***********

As they walked down the street, Liz watched as Maria kicked stones or anything else she could find lying on the sidewalk. She was in a horrible mood that came from more than not being able to brush her teeth this morning.

"What's up?" Liz asked, cautiously, hoping she wasn't the cause of any of Maria's anger.

"Nothing at all," Maria said wearing a bitter smile as she dented a car with a rock.

Liz decided not to force the issue. She looked longingly in the window of all the beautiful boutiques that lined the streets, and wished they weren't going to Wal-Mart. But, it was all they could afford right now.

When they returned to the hotel room, the rest of them were sitting around dejectedly. "We can't get the damn things to work," Michael said angrily, referring to the stones.

Maria watched as Isabel, who was sitting beside him on the floor put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. Maria felt an surge of jealousy, and uncharacteristic anger. She wanted to tear off Isabel's hand so that she could be the one to comfort Michael. Maria just shook it off and went to sit down.

"So, even your great intellect couldn't figure it out?" Maria snapped at Tess, having to take out her frustration on someone.

"You obviously have no idea what it is like to not be able to talk to your own people." Tess shot back. "You don't understand what it's like to be helpless. You've never been abandoned by your own parents, not being able to contact them no matter how much you want to."

"You know nothing about me," Maria said, refusing to let Tess see she had got to her. For someone who didn't even know that Maria's father had left her, she was still managing to hurt her with the fact. "You know even less about me than you do about anything else, if that's possible. But, no matter what you say to tick me off, I feel sorry for Max, Isabel......and Michael." Although Michael's name was added reluctantly, she purposely left out Tess's. There wasn't much that would make her feel sorry for that girl.

"We can't just stay here forever," Isabel said, "Doing nothing. We have to formulate some kind of plan, take some kind of action. We can't just hide from these guys for the rest of out lives in some cheap motel room."

"I know," Max said fustratedly, "But what are we supposed to do Isabel? We don't even know who these aliens are, let alone how to fight them. Right now, all we can do it keep working with the stones and try and find a way to contact our people. We need to know more before we can do anything."

"What if we never get them to work again," Michael said angrily, hopping to his feet. "Isabel's right Max, we need to do something. We can't just wait around for them to come to us!"

"I say we wait," Max said through gritted teeth, his tone leaving no room for argument.

That was exactly the wrong thing to say to Michael. His nostrils might as well have been shooting smoke he was so angry. "Do not think Maxwell," he said in a tight voice, "That just because the clone of you was leader on our home planet that you can be our leader here. You are not our commander, we make out own decisions. I will not let you tell me what to do. I don't need your permission to do anything."

Before Max could reply, Michael had grabbed his jacket and stormed out.

"He needs to control his temper," Max said tersely after the door had slammed shut behind him.

Maria didn't say anything as she stared at the door. Deep down, she agreed with Michael in a way. Even though he sometimes acted too rashly, Max wasn't the boss of him or anyone. They were their own people, and could live life as they wanted, including breaking human hearts. Normally, she would have chewed Max our on Michael's behalf, but right now she didn't feel like defending that bastard to anyone.

*******************

It was hour later that evening when there was a knock on the door. As Isabel walked to open it, Maria sat up expectantly. It had to be Michael, he had been gone too long already. But, she wasn't worried, she just didn't want him to lead the evil aliens right to them.

Isabel opened the door without checking through the peephole. Maria wanted to tell her how stupid that was, but it didn't matter, Michael was standing on the other side.

But he wasn't alone.

"Look who I found," Michael said in a quiet voice, dragging a bewildered Kyle Valenti into the room.
