"Help, with what?" Alex asked Isabel, confused.
Maria saw the four of them who had so easily dismissed the humans from their lives, and had the sudden urge to tell them to get the hell out. But, she said nothing.
Tess cast a glance at Liz and Maria who were sitting on the couch. "Maybe we should do this is another room," she said pointedly to Isabel, motioning towards the two human girls.
Isabel saw the fury building in Maria's eyes and said, "What's the point? We may need their help later two. We can trust them Tess, they know everything else."
"We need you to break into the airport files computer and get us tickets out of Roswell," Max said to Alex. "We need to get out of here now."
Alex just opened his mouth and shut it. He finally said, "I've never done anything like that before."
"But can you do it?" Tess asked insistently.
"I can try," was all Alex said.
"Why exactly do you need out of Roswell so suddenly?" Maria asked after a moment since Alex didn't seem to even care.
"We're being targeted," Michael said shortly, refusing to look at her.
"I thought Nasedo had taken care of the situation with the FBI," Liz said.
"Not the FBI," Isabel said, rubbing her forehead, "A race of aliens trying to dispose of us."
"Excuse me?" Maria did a double-take.
"It's a long story," Max said. "But all you need to know is we were approached this afternoon in the park and told we would be killed. The man would have done it there, but it was a public place."
"What? I mean did......?" Maria began to ask.
"That's all you need to know," Tess said sharply to Maria. "The less you know the better. We are only here for his help with the plane tickets." she motioned her head towards Alex.
Maria saw red and she was about to lunge for Tess and get in the catfight of her life. But, she felt Liz's hand on her arm restraining her, and she sat back stiffly.
"I think we deserve to know a little more than that," Maria said, her voice icy. "Alex here is going to break the law for you, and he doesn't even know all the facts."
"She's right in one thing," Max said. He was speaking to Maria, but his eyes were focused on Liz who wasn't looking at him. "The less you know, the safer you'll be. It's not that we don't trust you."
"Could have fooled me," Maria murmured under breath, staring angrily at Tess.
"When do you need me to try and book the tickets?" Alex asked.
"As soon as you can," Isabel said. "We have to get out of town soon. We're all even too afraid to go home for the night. We packed all our stuff, it's in the jeep, and we want to get out of here and far away as fast as we can."
Alex nodded, "Our computer's in the den." He turned to Maria and Liz, "If my mom or dad comes down the stairs, cough loudly so I know."
Maria nodded, and Alex went into the next room, followed by Isabel.
That left them with Max, Michael and Tess. Needless to say, it wasn't exactly comfortable in the room. Max awkwardly sat down on the love seat kiddy-corner from the big couch Maria and Liz sat on. When Tess saw that, she immediately went over and squeezed in beside him, staring at Liz the whole time.
Max didn't even seem to notice her, his attention was all focused on the girl across from him.
Maria didn't even acknowledge that Michael was in the room. Even when he moved behind her, there was no change except for a slight stiffening in her posture. "Why are you so mad?" Michael asked her quietly.
"I really don't see why you care," she said stiffly. " You told me you love me too much and you think you're too dangerous for us to be together in any way, even as friends. You cut me out of you life completely, and you don't even trust me now when your life is in serious danger."
"We're just trying to keep you safe," Michael said fustratedly.
"Don't do me any favours," Maria snapped.
"You want to be killed by other aliens?" Michael replied.
"I wanted to be with you," Maria replied, nearly yelling now. "I would have gone anywhere and done anything for you. And, it's not like even being away from you puts me completely out of danger. But, this way, I don't get to be happy just being with you. In fact, I think that's why you did that, this was just an excuse to break up."
"An excuse to break up?" Michael said, "I don't think so Maria. I told you I loved you for God's sake. I never told that to anyone in my life before. I'm doing all this just to keep you safe and happy."
"I'm not going to be happy without you," Maria said softly, and Michael was taken aback. Before he could say anything though, Alex and Isabel came back into the room.
"You're booked on a flight to New York tomorrow morning at 8 AM," Alex said, "It's the first one we could get. I'll give you the names I booked you under later."
"Thank you Alex," Isabel said, putting a hand on his shoulder. "You don't know how much this means to us. We wouldn't have been able to get anywhere without you."
"No problem," Alex said in a hoarse voice, "Anything to keep you safe."
Isabel bit her bottom lip. "I'm going to miss you," was all she said, but her eyes spoke volumes.
"And I'll miss you," Alex said, taking her hands. He didn't beg her to stay, just tried to memorize the feel of her for when she went away.
"We should leave," Tess said, breaking the moment.
"Why would you do that?" Alex asked, surprised. "God, you leave in 10 hours. Driving around the streets of Roswell won't be exactly safe. Pull the jeep into the driveway, and come back in. You can all spend the night here."
"We can't...." Tess began, but Max interrupted, looking at his sister and Alex then at Liz.
"I'll drive it in and go get our bags," he said.
