As Michael carried his big duffel bag into the living room, he heard Maria in the kitchen, on the phone. "That's right mom," she said, "I'm spending the night at Alex's. We have enough movie's here to last us till morning, and his parents don't mind. You don't need to car do you? Okay, see you tomorrow. Bye."
He was standing beside her as she hung up. "What do you think you're doing?" he demanded as she hopped off the stool by the phone.
"Staying the night," she said calmly, walking past him.
"No, you're not," he said, following her into the living room. "You are going to go home and get as far away from this as possible."
"I'm not going anywhere," she said, "Not until I know you've got away safely. Besides, if these guys do know where you are, they'd see me leave and I'd be in danger anyway right? There's nothing you can do about it Michael."
"I don't want you involved with this," he said through gritted teeth.
"You don't have a choice," she said determinedly. "In case you're wondering, Liz is staying too. As much as you'd like us to, we just can't stop caring."
Alex came down the stairs. "My parents don't mind if everyone stays the night," he said to Michael and Maria. "I just told them we were having an all-night movie fest and we would be very quiet and not disturb their precious sleep."
"That's what I told my mom too," Maria said, yawning.
"There's extra blankets and sleeping bags in the hall closet," Alex said to Max who had walked in.
He nodded, "I'll go get them." he said, tossing the bag he had brought in on the floor.
"I'll help you," Michael said, glaring at Maria. He followed Max and Alex out of the living room. Liz walked in from when she had been out using the bathroom.
Liz plopped down on the floor in front of the couch. Tess chose that moment to walk in, Isabel not far behind. "This will just be one big happy slumber party," Maria said in a high girly voice to Tess. She just couldn't bring herself to like the girl.
Tess ignored her and situated herself on the loveseat. Isabel tossed her stuff on the floor, and sat down. "We're sorry to do this," she said to Liz, "But we couldn't afford plane tickets on our own, and we wouldn't get very far in the jeep."
"It's not a big deal," Liz said. Maria was just glad she had come to Alex's tonight, otherwise she would have had no idea what was going on.
The boys returned with blankets, pillows and sleeping bags. Michael angrily dropped a big purple blanket and pillow on Maria's head.
"Thanks," she said sarcastically, pulling it off the top of her. She settled comfortably on the edge of the couch and settled the pillow behind her head and covered herself in the blanket.
"There's room here," Tess said pointedly to Max, looking at the couch beside her. He hesitated, looking at Liz who had curled up on the floor with a sleeping bag and pillow. "Come on," Tess encourage him, scooting to the side.
After hesitating again for a moment, he reluctantly sat down beside her. Liz didn't flinch, but a brief expression of pain crossed her face.
"Where the hell am I supposed to sleep?" Michael asked crossly, staring at Liz, and Alex and Isabel who had taken up nearly all the floor space.
"There's plenty of room beside Maria," Alex said, earning himself a killer glance from his friend.
"I don't think that's such a good idea," Michael said, eyeing her.
"Oh for God's sake, just lie down," Maria snapped. "It's not like you're going to let us get 'close' in any way, so give it up and go to sleep."
Slowly, he slid on the other side of the couch, as far away from her as he could. He kept his legs scrunched up so there was no chance of touching her. There was no way he would ever fall asleep like that. Maria just shook her head and closed her eyes, trying to get some sleep.

When she opened her eyes, it was just beginning to get light outside. Maria stretched out her legs, and when her feet hit something, it all came back to her. The video night, the aliens being hunted, the fact that Michael was in such close proximity to her.
Maria glanced down at her watch. It read 6:50AM. "Shit," she swore. She kicked Michael in the shins and reached over the couch to shake Isabel and Alex. "It's time to get you guys to the airport." she hissed, throwing a shoe at Tess.
"What time is it?" Max asked, sliding off the couch.
"Ten to 7," Maria said, waking Liz. "It's time to go."
"I need to use the washroom," Isabel mumbled sleepily, stumbling from the living room.
"We can take my parents car," Alex murmured, rubbing his eyes. "We'll send Liz to drive the jeep, just in case they recognize it, and cover the license plates with mud."
"I'll take mine too," Maria said, whoever wants to can ride with me.
"Alex, Isabel and Tess can go with you," Max said, thinking fast, knowing Maria wouldn't like being in a car with Tess. "On second thought, take Michael too. I'll go with Maria."
"Fine by me," Maria said shortly, not looking over at Michael. "Make sure you have all your stuff and let's go."

Maria screeched into the Roswell airport. Max was in the seat behind her. "So, are you guys ever coming back?" she asked casually.
Max looked over at her, then back out the window. "I don't know," he replied honestly. "I hope so....someday....but there's not way to be sure."
"Just don't let him do something stupid," Maria said. Max knew what she was talking about and nodded. Maria was satisfied. If she wasn't there to keep Michael from putting himself in danger unneccessarily, at least someone would.
They didn't say anything else to each other as Maria pulled into a parking stall near the front doors. Alex's group and Liz in the jeep were there already.
"The tickets are being held for you guys at the front counter," he said, holding Isabel's hand.
The whole group of them walked into the airport. It was very crowded inside. They threaded there way to the counter so the four aliens could pick up their tickets.
"Departing gate 4," the lady said with a smile to Max, handing him the tickets. He just smiled and nodded back.
The four checked their luggage. Maria raised her eyebrows at the huge bags. "Pack enough stuff?" she asked.
"These are our wordly possessions at the moment," Isabel said, sounding like she wanted to cry. "We have to live on all this for who knows how long."
Maria didn't say anything else.
"So, we say goodbye now?" Tess said impatiently.
"See you Tess," Maria said, "It's been a pleasure having you here." she didn't even try to hide the sarcasm in her voice.
Isabel and Alex and turned too each other and walked off a little ways to say goodbye to each other.
Liz looked at the way Tess had put her arm on Max's arm possessively. "Bye Max, Tess," she said in a flat, unemotional voice.
Max was about to say something, but the hard pressure of Tess's hand kept him silent. He just sent Liz a longing, searching look, but she still refused to look at him.
"So spaceboy," Maria said turning to Michael, "I guess this is goodbye forever. I bet you're all broken up inside."
Michael's face turned into an expression of fear. "Oh shit," he said in a panicked voice.
"Huh?" Maria said, wondering what the hell he was talking about.
"It's them," he said in an awed voice, casting a panicked glance at Max.
Maria turned her head to see a group of four guys striding towards them. "Is that the...?" she began to ask.
Before she could finish her words, she felt her arm being grabbed by Michael. "Run," he said, dragging her with him. "We gotta get on that plane."
They all sprinted towards their departure gate, not looking back to see how far the guys were behind them. They reached the gate. As Max looked back at the guys, he noticed them staring and pointing at the 3 humans as they jogged.
"They saw them," he said, swearing softly. "Isabel, give me 3 sheets of paper from that pad in you bag."
"Why?" she asked.
"Just do it," he hissed, and as she pulled out the pad he tore off 2 sheets. He waved his hands over them, making them looking like identical tickets to those of the aliens, except for seat numbers.
"They are not coming with us," Michael hissed as max handed the tickets to Liz, Maria and Alex.
"What are we supposed to do?" Max said softly, pulling them all towards the lady checking tickets. "Leave them here to be caught by the other aliens and possibly killed?"
The lady checked their tickets, and they nearly sprinted down the hallway towards the plane. They heard the the other aliens arguing with the flight attendant at the gate, trying to get past her with no success.
"I guess we're going to New York," Maria said, casting her eyes to Liz as they approached the entrance to the plane.
