Michael sat hunched across from Isabel in the only other cafe in town besides the Crashdown. The whole place was dirty, and Michael wouldn't touch the food with a ten-foot pole, but they wanted someplace to talk.
"Did you get it?" Michael asked Isabel tersely.
She nodded. Isabel slowly glanced around to make sure nobody was watching them, and pulled out the other communicator stone. It was just as Michael remembered it. He had shown the other one to Isabel, and right now it was tucked safely inside his jacket.
Isabel shook her head, "As responsible as max is, we never should have left it with him. For crying out loud, it took me less than a minute to locate in his room."
"I still say we could get Tess to help us," Michael said, "Maybe she'll know more about these things than we do."
Isabel shook her head, "Come one Michael. Where's that 'trust no one' attitude? You know she'll want to involve Max, and we can't do that yet."
Michael nodded, rubbing his head, "Yeah, I know. I just don't like having to lie to somebody else. But, you're lying to your brother, I can do the same to my sister."
"So," Isabel said, "How exactly are these things supposed to work?"
Michael laughed, "I don't know any better than you do."
Isabel sighed, "Michael, I know we think these can help us in some way, but there's something we should consider. I mean, we don't know who gave this to you. We don't know if it's the real deal or anything."
"It's the best shot we have," Michael said grimly, feeling the stone press into his chest.
Isabel nodded, "I guess. So, what should we do now?"
Michael's only answer was a shrug. They were interrupted by a blonde waitress coming to take their order. In a way, she reminded him of Maria. That wasn't saying much though. Right now, any girl with short blonde hair reminded him of her.
After she had gone, Michael leaned forward. "I'm really not sure if this will work," he said hesitantly. He pulled out the copy he had made of all the symbols from their dreams and the caves. He pointed to one that they were finding to be more and more familiar. "I know nothing happened last time we tried at the last point," Michael said, "But I've managed to find another location with this symbol."
"Where is it?" Isabel asked, looking up from the paper to him.
Michael sighed, "The school gymnasium."
Isabel grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the booth. "Let's go."
************************
Isabel and Michael crept down the halls of Roswell High. There was a creepy feeling in the air. The school was completely devoid of the bustle of students. There wasn't even a night caretaker.
Isabel had opened the locks with her powers, and disarmed the security system in the same way. Michael felt a pang that he couldn't do either of those things himself, but got over it quickly.
"This is so weird," Isabel muttered as they approached the gym doors, voicing his thoughts out loud.
"Let's just pray we don't get caught," Michael hissed back.
Isabel pushed open the doors to the gymnasium and Michael followed her in. They didn't risk turning on the lights which would make it obvious that someone was in there, but Isabel made a light with her powers.
Michael crept over to the center of the gym floor, motioning Isabel to follow. It was convenient that the place he had tacked was right on center court.
He had to fight to pay attention to what they were doing. Right now, all he could think about was Maria's dream about him last night. He could almost see their figures dancing over in the corner, and him stabbing her in her back.
"What do we do now?" Isabel whispered.
Michael shook himself and pulled out a marker. "We draw the symbol, place the stones on it, and see what happens."
He leaned over and drew the symbol on the floor. He didn't make it too large, just big enough. As he sketched the weird shape, there was a feeling about how natural this felt, how he knew exactly how to draw the dimensions of the symbol.
He finally stood. Almost reverently, Isabel took the two stones and placed them on opposite ends of the symbol. She too stood back, and waited.
Nothing happened.
"Now what?" Isabel asked irritably.
Michael didn't answer in words. He followed the urge that entered his body, and went with it. He didn't know how he knew what to do, he just did it.
As Michael raised his hands slowly, and ray that almost seemed like lightening emerged from his palm. It was bright yellow, and Isabel gasped in surprise. The split to each of the two stones, and the symbols on top began to glow. One was a deep blue, the other a bright red.
As the gym floor began to shake, Michael dropped his hand in shock. However, the stones still kept glowing with all their brightness. Isabel grabbed on to Michael in shock, fear widening her eyes.
The stones rose from the floor on their own accord, and began to circle each other in the air. Michael watched in awe as they suddenly clashed and feel to the ground.
Isabel gave a small scream as the figure of a blonde woman rose from the two stones on the ground.
