Part Nine

Michael stepped slowly towards the door, so not to draw attention from the supposed 'doctor'. He quickly decided the best course of action.

"I'm going to get some lunch Kyle," Michael said cautiously, trying not to betray the nervousness in his voice. "Why don't you come too? You must be famished."

Kyle looked at him suspiciously, not knowing anything was wrong, only hearing the weird tone in Michael's voice. "Why? I just got a coffee, I'm fine."

Michael was behind the doctor's back, "But aren't you hungry? You never know when you'll have the chance to eat again." he motioned his head frantically towards the door, over and over.

Kyle looked at him as though he had grown a second head, but shrugged and followed him out the door, "Fine, let's go get something to eat."

As they got out into the hallway, Kyle opened his mouth to ask what was going on, but Michael motioned him to shut up and pulled him into an empty room.

"What the hell are you doing?" Kyle demanded as Michael shut the door behind them.

Michael shook his head and stalked around the room. "The doctor, she's an evil alien."

Kyle was taken aback, "What!? What are you talking about? There's not way for you to know that."

Michael gave him a piercing look, "Last time I checked, normal human doctors don't go around carrying ray guns that come from another planet."

Kyle got a panicked look in his eye, "We left her alone with my dad! We've got to get back in there. She'll probably kill him."

He made a move towards the door, but Michael grabbed his arm, "Kyle, if they wanted him dead, he'd be dead by now. Besides, we can't let her know that we know. Not until we get backup. But, don't go back into the room for now, just steer clear of her."

Kyle looked dubious, and Michael grabbed his arm tighter, "I mean it Kyle, she can't know. We'll get everyone together, think up a plan. We'll beat them again, but you need to stay quiet."

Kyle finally nodded, and Michael released his arm. "Listen, it's simple. Meet me and the others at my apartment in an hour. Do not go back in that room, not yet."

Michael left the room, preparing to go find the rest of the group, leaving Kyle behind. Up ahead of them, he saw Maria. He had remembered her saying she was going to come visit the sheriff in the hospital. Michael was going to warn her not to go into the room, when someone blocked his path.

He looked up into a nurse's uniform. It was the same nurse from when Max had been in the hospital, the same nurse he had flirted with to distract her. She was blocking his way, and she wasn't going anywhere.

"Hey you!" she said in surprise, "I remember you, Michael? Right?"

He nodded, glancing past her to see Maria walking into the hospital room. He wanted to groan out loud, but forced his attention back to the nurse.

".....eighteen yet?" he caught the end of her question, and shook his head in the negative.

"No, just seventeen," he said, trying to project a hint of sadness into his voice. Who know when she might come in handy.

"That's too bad," she said cheerfully, "I just broke up with my boyfriend, and was looking for a fling to get over him, oh well."

"Next boyfriend you break up with," Michael promised in a distracted voice, keeping his eyes glued to the door of the hospital room.

The nurse smiled as began to walk past him, "All right then. Hope to see you around."

"Me too," Michael said vaguely, waving over his shoulder. As soon as she had begun to walk away, he nearly began to sprint to the hospital room. However, when he was just about there, Maria came out.

"Thank God," Michael said, grabbing her and hugging her.

"What?" Maria asked in a confused voice.

He held her at arm length, "I saw you go into the hospital room, and didn't think you'd come out allright."

Maria shook her head with a laugh, "Visiting a patient is dangerous? I just went in, and when I saw a doctor checking on him, I didn't want to stick around."

Michael nodded, "Good. There are things about that doctor you don't know."

"Like what?" she asked as he resisted the impulse to go check in the room on the doctor who was an evil alien.

Michael guided her slowly away, casting a quick glance over his shoulder. "For one, she's alien, and not a good guy like us. We're all meeting to come up with a plan to destroy her and whoever else might be nearby."

As they passed the front desk, Michael saw someone in the back room. Far away though she saw, she looked a lot like that evil alien doctor in the sheriff's hospital room. But that was impossible of course. His imagination was working overtime.
