Part Ten

"They're back, the evil aliens," Michael said dramatically to the group assembled in the living room of his apartment. Maria sat beside him on the loveseat, and Max sat beside Liz on the other couch, not touching. Isabel sat on a kitchen chair, and Kyle and Alex were sprawled on the floor.

"At least one of them anyway," Kyle said in a dry voice. "She was disguised as a doctor checking on my dad."

"And you left her in there with him?" Liz said in an incredulous voice. Kyle shot a pointed glance at Michael.

"We didn't want her to suspect we knew," Michael said sharply. "It's easier if they think we are clueless."

"Well, we have to get rid of them," Max said forcefully, "We'll go to the hospital and get rid of her like we did the others."

Michael shot him a glance, "And what if there's more than just that one Max? We need a better plan than that?"

"But what?" Isabel demanded, "We don't have anything else to do? They're out to kill us Michael, and we know it. The only thing I can't figure out is why they haven't killed the sheriff yet."

"Who knows?" Michael said with a shrug, "But, so long as he's in a coma, he's of no danger to them. And, it's a way to get to us."

Alex nodded, "You're right Michael, but what are we going to do then? We have no way of really knowing how many of them there are."

"Grab the one and torture her till she tells us everything?" Michael suggested blandly. He was surprised when everyone was actually considering the idea.

"That's actually not a bad plan?" Isabel admitted, "I mean, after what they did to Max, they deserve whatever they get, and we need the information."

"I can't believe we're actually considering this!" Max exclaimed. "Torturing a person, it's cruel, I should know."

"What bothers you more Max?" Michael said pointedly, "That it's cruel? Or that I thought of it."

Max glared at him, "That it's cruel of course. I don't know if I can stomach hurting another person unless I'm attacked."

"Well," Michael said, turning away from Max, "Since he has a problem with hurting someone who is trying to kill him, I guess I'll be in charge of getting information out of her. I doubt it will be too hard."

"Can you handle it Michael?" Isabel said dubiously, "I mean, I know I couldn't."

"I can," Michael said firmly, "And besides, what have we got to lose? We were planning on killing her anyway."

Alex sighed, "Where exactly are we going to do this torture? What are you going to say, 'oh please miss alien, come to my house so I can hurt you beyond belief'?"

Michael shot him an exasperated glance, "No Alex, I'll go with Kyle to the hospital tomorrow and knock her out or some thing. Don't worry, I'll get her here."

Kyle nodded, "I'll help you with her. I mean, these people nearly killed my dad, I have no qualms about breaking a few bones or something."

"So it's decided then?" Michael asked the group, raising his eyebrows. "Everyone's in agreement?"

They all nodded, one by one, although Max agreed reluctantly. Michael sighed, "Okay then, we're done here." Then he added hospitably in a cheerful voice, "So everyone get the hell out."

When they all had gone, it was just him and Maria left. She had never said anything during the meeting, just sat still on the couch, her hands folded in her lap. She still didn't say anything, just sat there looking at him.

"You don't have a problem with this, do you?" Michael said nervously, running his hands through his hair. "The plan. I won't enjoy hurting her you know, it's just something that has to be done. We need to know the truth."

"How will you even know she's telling the truth?" Maria said softly, sharp in contrast to her usual effervescent style.

"I'll have to take my chances," Michael said with a sigh, sitting down beside her on the couch. "You're sure you're ok with this? You didn't answer before."

Maria didn't say anything, just leaned over and kissed him hungrily. Michael responded in kind, putting his hands on her head and pulling her closer to him. He didn't do anything else, knowing she wasn't ready to go farther.

And least he thought she wasn't ready to go farther. That was why he was surprised when he felt her hands slide up his shirt and massage his chest as she slid the shirt off his shoulders. He was even more surprised when she began to slide her hands down the front of his pants.

"Maria!" he gasped, pulling away, breathing heavily. "What are you doing?"

"You like that?" she asked in a sultry voice as she slid down the fly on his jeans.

"Uh huh," he said breathlessly, "But we don't have to do this. You said...you weren't..." his voice trailed off at her touch.

He wanted to kill the inventor of the telephone when his rang a minute later. He forced himself away from Maria so he could compose himself to answer the phone.

"Just leave it," Maria said with a pout, her lipstick smeared.

He shook his head, "It might be important, it won't take long though."

He picked up the receiver. "Hello," he growled into the phone, this better be damn important."

"Michael," Kyle said on the other end in an urgent voice, "I'm back at the hospital, and you'll never guess what I just found."

"What?" Michael said irritably.

"Maria. She was tied and gagged under my dad's bed. Says she's been here since she came in to see dad. The doctor did this to her."

"She's there? With you?" Michael demanded, staring at the Maria in front of him who was looking at him with sultry eyes.

"Yes, Maria's here with me." Kyle said firmly from the hospital across town.
