Plymouth's Pubs - Hell on Earth or Diamonds in the Rough?
I will hereby endeavour to review the pubs of central Plymouth. If you have any recommendations for pubs or the qualities upon which I should judge them please e mail me.
In the mean time here are some of my favourites:

The Thistle Park Tavern, 32 Commercial Rd,
Plymouth. Tel 01752 204890.
This warm and friendly pub has a brewery attached to it where you can buy fine ales by the barrel. You can also buy take-out booze at 1am, this is the only pub in Plymouth to offer this service!

The Fortescue, Mutley Plain, Plymouth. Tel 01752 660673.
This newly renovated establishment offers a cool beer roof-garden, an excellent jukebox and a somewhat Bohemian crowd. Beware of football louts lurking in the bar beneath the pub though.

The Cooperage, 114 Vauxhall St, Plymouth. Tel 01752 229275.
Plymouth's premier live music venue. Highlights include open mic night on a Monday and many specialist club nights. Check local press for listings

The Office, High St, Stonehouse, Plymouth. Tel 01752 222473.
If you like Country & Western and locals, you'll love this pub.  The drinks are cheap and you can get to know the real Plymouth.

And for the morning after the night before, try the Port of Call Cafe on West Hoe Rd. A fine English Breakfast can be had for 2. Oh yeah and it's fully licenced, just in case you need to carry on drinking...
One of the many Absinthe kittens found to be wandering the streets of Plymouth at night.
