The Dark Knight
Batman.  The Caped Crusader.   The Dark Knight.  The World's Greatest Detective.
He's known by many names.  Some consider him nothing but an urban legend.   But those who have seen him have one of two opinions about him:
To criminals, he's a monster.
 To a few victims, he's a hero.
Then, there are people like Officer  Bullock who see him as a menace, a vigilante who must be brought to justice.   Some, like Commissioner James Gordon, see him as a friend.  And still more,  such as Dick Grayson, Barbara Gordon, Tim Drake, and others, see him as a  teacher and a leader.
Regardless of who you are, Batman is  unique.  An ordinary man driven by a promise to protect the innocent and  prevent his fate from befalling anyone else.  He watches over Gotham City  at night, preying on both petty criminals and super villains.
Dark Angel.  Winged Avenger.   Protector of the Night.  These are the names I attribute to the Batman.   He's a man with a mission.  He's sworn to protect the innocent.  And  he won't let anything stand in his way.
Here's a list of a few members of  Batman's Rogues Gallery:
He's a psychopath and a clown all      rolled up into one.  "The Clown Prince of Crime" as he's called.       Batman's greatest villain.
Joker:
Two-Face:
D.A. Harvey Dent was horribly scarred in an accident.  This resulted in      a split personality, Two-Face.  He blames Batman for what happened to      him.  His one weakness: his coin.
Scarecrow:
Dr. Johnathan Crane was always a tall, lanky man with an obsession with      fear.  Now he's the Scarecrow, King of Fear.  He uses his fear      toxins to make people see their worst fears.
Poison Ivy:
And where would the Dark Knight be without a female foe?  Pamala Isely      is a botanist who possesses a certain power over plants.  She uses      poisoned lipstick, perfume, and other accessories to defeat her prey.       And she's got some house plants that pack a pretty hefty punch.
Riddler:
"Riddle me this, riddle me that.  Who's afraid of the big black Bat?"       This famous line from Batman: Forever is a quote from none other than      the Riddler.  He uses riddles as clues for the police, and a certain      Dark Knight, to make himself seem superior.  It works like a charm      until Batman figures them out and takes him to Arkham Asylum once again.
Ra's Al Ghul:
His name means "The Dragon's Head".  And that he is.  A very      intelligent man who, when he dies, uses the life-giving properties of      "Lazarus Pits" to restore him.  The side effect: insanity.  A      worthy opponent for the Batman, he once used the Dark Knights own notes to      defeat the Justice League.
Bane:
He was born in a prison and had experimental drugs pumped into him, bulking      up his muscles and giving him superhuman strength.  He is the only one      who as ever been able to break the Bat...literally.  He broke the Dark      Knight's back, sending him into paralysis for quite some time.  But      Batman returned to administer swift judgment.
Here's a picture of Christian  Bale as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming Batman Begins movie!!!
Riddle me this...riddle me that...who's afraid of the big black Bat?
