Crusty Magic

 
  best be could only be described as ... ingredients ... standing in the middle of the floor with the mess all around them ... and they were HOT ... VERY HOT ... oven HOT.

The intense heat looked to be coming from the two mounds, and the bread smell was almost overwhelming here. There was a door at the opposite side of the small room and seeing no danger we stepped into the room and started towards the door.

That's when the mound sprouted arms and legs and advance on us ... very slowly.

No problem. Ariana jumped in and with a mighty swipe of her sword took a large chunk of crust? from the creature ... a food golem perhaps?. In exchange for her skillful blow, she was staggered by a molten stream of spicy tomato sauce. 

Dane joined the fray but was unable to make much of an impact at the start, and I thought that a couple well placed streams of fire might make the crust more brittle for Dane's mace. Meanwhile, Whiff fired a number of crossbow bolt at the thing, but they just went right through it.

So it was to be brute force. We needed to wound it enough to drain its insides while not getting burned in the process. Gee, a fighter sure would have been useful.

But eventually and with only a few scalding sauce burns, we triumphed leaving a pile of semi-burned bread crust and tomato sauce. Ne'ek started eat the remains. Which made the rest of us mildly nauseated.

The remained door opened easily to reveal a bruised and bloody man that Dane identified as the Master Wizard of the house. He was still alive but groggy.

As Dane administered some much needed healing and the rest of us were watching, another one of those nasty imp materialized above the old wizard and streaked toward him with a high-pitched screech of anger. Ariana and I both saw it at the same time. For a few seconds it didn't even realize that it was already dead as its beady little eyes stared
