"Whether you know it or not, you've become embroiled in this struggle and it has fallen to me to see how you figure into it."

She paused a moment and took a drink from a cup.

"For I am part of another faction. A faction that sees only happiness in the resurgence of the Psions, and hold no ill will for things that happened in the past. However, we do not wish to return to it, and we fear that is exactly what will happen if these others gain power.

"That Davis, a powerful member of the other faction, shows interest in you can only mean that he has sensed in you the same potential that I spoke of in my letter. That concerns us, for let there be no doubt, Davis is a dangerous, dangerous man, and you would do well to avoid him."

She stopped again and allowed me to absorb what she'd said.

"So what do you want with me?" I asked still somewhat suspicious of her motives.

"Well ... honestly, I want to help you. There is potential in you, but it needs to be released and only another powerful psion can do that." She smiled again, "And if you haven't figured it out yet, I am such a one.

"In order to do this, though, I must lay my hands upon you and link with your mind. You will not be harmed, but it can be somewhat ... jarring. You must choose."

She leaned back in her chair again and watched.
