This is Macquarie Mental Hospital (what dodgy suburb is without one of these??) Jumping on the trampoline is one of the patients at the hospital...don't worry, he didnt see me taking this shot. The hospital has been in North Ryde for a very long time, it has a schizophrenic ward, a ward for mental kiddies, and is home to anyone suffering from a little insanity. If you're in the area (unlikely, but anyway) i recommend you drive thru it, because if you're really lucky, like me, you'll get a chicken bone thrown at you from a patient standing behind the fence.
If you need a chemist, a bottle shop, a bakery, a newsagency, or a place to place a bet --this is where it's at. On occasion you might spot a mental patient wandering aimlessly up and down the footpath talking to him or herself (it's best not to make eye contact.) For a closer look at the shops, click on the picture above.
They're always fixing things up at Coxs Road mall, i dont know why, it's just a crap little shopping centre with not much to offer. They have a no-skateboard, no-bicycle, & no-pets policy while Blenheim Road shops welcome everyone and everything. The only thing i dig about Coxs Road is the indestructible Jewels Food Barn, a place that has lasted years and years...despite Loads of local supermarketary competition.
It was once called John's, then big business took over and it became Civic Video. But the great thing about the change of ownership is their video selection is still the crappiest video selection in any video store in any suburb of Sydney. They have multiple copies of all the 7 Police Academy movies, and anything Bette Midler starred in is in their "must see" collection, but don't hold your breath if you wanna catch a latest release- at Civic a "latest release" movie is something that came out 12 months ago. (by the way, Hi to Tammy-- i know her, she works there.)
