| Myles nodded. Drive safe, he said. Being thrust into a case where he and Sue were working together without the rest of the team to temper their contact with each other Myles had become very protective. She had commented on it the night before, complaining that she already had three brothers, plus Bobby, Jack, and Dimitrius, and she didnt need another big brother watching out for her all the time. Myles wasnt sure how to take it when Sue commented on Jack treating her like his little sisterMyles had never looked at his999 sister the way Jack looked at Suebut he hadnt commented on it. Matchmaking was Lucys department, not his.
Sue smiled brightly at Myles, secretly pleased at the change his case had brought in the other agents usually caustic verbal volleys. See you in the morning, she said before heading to the elevator with Abigail. Once they were in the car Abigail spoke. So whats the deal with you and Agent Leland? Even though there was nothing to do, Jack and Bobby ended up staying late to spend some quality time with the filing cabinets. Any cold cases where the statute of limitations had run out were put in alphabetized boxes to be taken down to archives. Cases where offenders had been released from prison were put in a cabinet for easy reference should any similar crimes occur in the near future. Cases that had long since been solved and the offender was no longer with the living were put in boxes that would be taken to archives where they would stay unless they needed to be referenced or they ran into a copycat somewhere along the line. Basically Jack and Bobby threw themselves headlong into busy work that wasnt really their responsibility but that needed to be done. Truthfully the team had been putting off this particular housekeeping task for several years, with great success, but their filing cabinets were getting too full to hold new cases and rumours had been floating around about Randy sending efficiency experts to shadow each team that answered to him in some way, shape, or form, for an indeterminate amount of time. They had enough problems with Randy without having a label of inefficiency thrown at them as well. Finally, two hours after theyd started, they both admitted defeat. Having to read through every file before resorting it was more tiring than they would have expected. |
