BETTER THAN REAL
DISCLAIMER: I don't own NCIS and my only form of payment for writing this is the response I, hopefully, will get to posting this story.
CHAPTER ONE
Time of death had yet to be determined to the exact time, but the range had put the death somewhere between 1100 and 1300 hours the night before.  There was no ID on the victim and the woman who had found the body had been walking to work when she tripped over a log that turned out to be an arm.  According to the uniform the dead body was a Lieutenant, a Commander, and a two-star Admiral in the US Navy.

Why dont we ever get the easy cases? Tony whined as he flashed the scene.  It stood to reason that the
parts, for lack of a better term, were from three different people, which made their scene a dump site rather than a murder scene.  And if they were processing a dump site there was bound to be more than just the Lieutenant, the Commander, and the two-star in the grassy field that was in dire need of a flame thrower.

Because the higher ups dont give Gibbs the easy cases, Kate said logically as she took measurements for her sketches.  And quit aiming that thing at me, she said, turning the digital camera in Tonys hands away from where he had aimed it.  As much as I like the attention, I dont need Abby printing out pictures of my ass, thank you very much, she said before carefully crossing the scene to put some distance between herself and her partner who, while adorable and endearing at times, was a royal pain in the ass most of the time.  Especially when Gibbs wasnt around to temper his habits with a swift head-slap or two.

How far out did Probie say they were when he called? Tony called over to Kate as he began doing his job in earnest.

An hour if McGees driving, ten minutes if Gibbs is behind the wheel, Kate said.  She glanced over at Ducky who was in deep conversation mode with a torso almost forty feet away from where they were standing.  Convinced that they were safe from the good doctors keen hearing, Kate bit her lip as she looked back up at Tony.  Do you think McGee will let on to Gibbs that I was the one who answered your phone at two in the morning?

Tony chuckled.  It was so like Kate to worry so much about whether or not Gibbs found out that they were sleeping together that she didnt even know that Gibbs, being Gibbs, had known about their relationship from basically the first moment it became more than that of partners and friends.  Gibbs had, after all, been the one to send them undercover together as a married couple and he had watched their first kiss on the surveillance monitor in Abbys lab at NCIS Headquarters.
FLASHBACK

You know, Tony, it hasnt been as bad as I though.  Being married to you, Kate admitted as they walked, hand in hand, down the street.  Youre not a half bad fake-husband.
