| I slept pretty good that night. The next day the nurses wanted me up and walking. It hurt a lot to get out of and back into bed, but it really was nice to be on my feet and moving. It was slow going at first, but hey, ya gotta start somewhere! They took me off the I.V. pain meds on this day and started me on the oral pain meds. I think it was a combination of the oral pain meds and left over anesthesia that made me disfunctionally drowsy. As the meds took effect I began to notice that I could hardly keep my eyes open during the day. It was crazy! I would bump into things as I did my laps up and down the hallway. I'm sure I must have been entertainment for the nurses! LOL I existed this way until the last day when I finally woke up. Two days after surgery, after it had been established that my bowels were waking up and starting to work again, I got to start eating. My meals were sloooow. I could only take one ounce of fluid at a time. I had to wait 10 minutes between ounces and walk the halls. It was so strange to feel so full on such a tiny bit of liquid! On Thursday ( the 3rd day after surgery) I got to go home. That was the day I finally woke up from all the pain meds. I took as little as possible for that reason. The ride home was tiring, but not too bad. I had a friend's pillow with me so I put it on my tummy and buckled the seat belt over it. That was more comfortable and gave me more support. We got home in the late afternoon. It was so good to see my little boys again! |
