| INTERSTITIAL CYSTITIS Hi my name is Melinda. I am 27 yrs old with 2 children. For years I have had alot of problems with my bladder. At first it just was frequency.. I would feel like I didn't have to go then all of a sudden I would have to go so bad I would have to run to the nearest restroom..Then when I got pregnant with my first daughter things just kept getting worse. Then again when you are pregnant peeing is always really bad. Then after my youngest daughter was born who is now 8. The slight pain started. Then about 4 years ago I started getting really bad. I was constantly in the ER or the doctors office crying because the pain would get really bad. Then once a month around the time of my cycles the pain would be just horrible I did not want to get out of bed. I could not work because I was always sick. And the one time I did get a job the fired me because I was always having to call in sick.. Then about 3 years ago it got even worse. Back to the ER again with no results. Then in 2005 the ER sent me to an OBGYN that did some tests and she even did exploritory surgery on my belly too see if there was anything wrong with my female parts which of course there wasn't. But the pain just kept getting worse. I had pretty much given up. So in November of 2005 the OBGYN desided to do a hystorectomy. At the time I was living in Illinois. Then in March of 2006 I moved back home to Washington State. And I went to see my OBGYN that took care of me when I was pregnant with my girls. She looked at me and said you did not even need the surgery the last doctor gave you because you have something called Interstitial Cystitis. She then referred me to a urologist who then desided that the OBGYN was completely right. He tried to do some tests. And boy did they hurt. Then he desided because the pain just kept getting worse that he would do a surgery called Hydrodistention. Which enlarges the bladder to try to get it to repair itself. After that the pain did not get better. Even though I have heard that it works great for some people. But it did not seem to work for me. And so my battle continued. As of today my pain has doubled. I keep trying to get in to see a pain clinic but they keep messing up my doctors requests. They also want me to see this other urologist in Seattle. And she says she can't see me till January 22, 2007. So I sit and wait and call them all the time hoping to God that they change their minds or have a cancelled appointment. But so far that is my battle and it seems to be never ending. But I know someday they may find the cause and cure for this horrible disease. Thank you all from coming. I will have links and more updates on my journey with IC as time goes on. God bless you all. Melinda |
