| (Page 2) In 1984, Kevin entered the Manx Grand Prix 600c class in the Newcomers section. Despite huge machine problems, and two unscheduled stops in the race (one for almost 5 minutes at Ballaugh and another for 2 minutes), Kevin managed to come home 13th in his class and average over 90mph! 1985 saw Kevin's first entry into the TT races in the 250cc Production class. Kevin had a wonderful practice week, lapping at over 90mph every time. Race week, however, was not to be. During the race, Kevin was lying in the top 15 on the second lap when his engine expired at Westwood on the run to Kirk Michael. As already mentioned, Kevin took a break from the end of 1985 to 1994. In 1994, Kevin dipped his toes back into the water and had two successful races in Ireland and the Isle of Man. 1995 was also a light year and Kevin only entered the lightweight Manx Grand Prix, but what a race! Four laps of the course, each time lapping at over 95mph with his best being 98.42mph. He was the first standard production 400 home! In 1996, Kevin entered more races, including the Isle of Man Steam Packet Races 400cc class and finished in 3rd position. This was his first time on the Billown circuit. The Southern 100 Station Garages Junior 400 class, he won! Whilst on a high, Kevin rode in the 125/400cc class, also at the Southern 100, and he was looking to win. However, disaster struck and whilst fighting for the lead, Kevin crashed, but still managed to finish 4th. Then, to close the season, he entered the Manx Grand Prix in the lightweight race and bettered his fastest lap time by achieving a 102.52mph lap on the last lap and averaged 99.7mph the whole race. He finished in 2nd place in the 400cc class and was also awarded a replica. Page 2 of 3 (next >>) |
