Heart-Strings, p4
Waking from her less-than peaceful sleep, she drags herself out of bed and to a nearby window. The bright afternoon sun tells her she had slept the morning away. She lets her skin soak in the sun's golden rays. Feeling the need for fresh air, she gets dressed. On her way out the door, she spies her unfinished book laying on her desk. She picks it up, only to find a piece of paper with numbers stuck to the bottom. She picks it off and looks at it. Torn between not wanting to let go and wanting to do the right thing, she sits down.
Shaking, her fingers punch out the numbers she didn't remember she had written down. One ring, two rings, three rings.....this isn't right, she thinks.
"Hello?" came a smooth deep voice.
What was she doing? Should she just hang up? No, if it is too end, she want complete closure.
"Hi." was her reply.
"Who is this?", he asked.
"It's me."
And so the conversation went. Question after question was asked. For the next three hours they talked. Talked as tho they had known each other for years. They laughed and cried and hoped and prayed. Knowing they both must go, they ended with quietly said "I love you"'s.
Deep within her, her dream lived on. How far they will go, she had no idea. But for now, she will live in all the joy and happiness he is giving her. She would worry about the future later. This was all she wanted.
