Heart-Strings, p5

As the months grew on, she felt more alive. Her life was begining to have meaning. She smiled more, laughed often. It was a whole new feeling.

He called her everyday.. The conversation was never short on words. There was always something new to talk about. They chatted about everything. Everything that is, but for one thing. His marriage. He never talked about it and she never asked. In her mind, she was giving him something his wife was not. She wanted to believe there was no future for his marriage. But within her heart, she knew that was a lie. The only thing he had ever said about his wife was that she was always gone and that he missed her. That little bit of information was buried inside her mind .

One day, in mid November, she awoke with a smile on her face, as usual. She got dressed and walked out to check her mail. Inside she found a letter, in an unfamiliar handwriting, with no return address. Walking back to the house, she turned her head towards the sun and smiled.

Once inside, she proceeded to tear open the envelope. Right away she knew who it was from. It read:

My dearest love,

I am writing this with a heavy heart. Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, and you just have to go with it. My curve came last night when my wife found all the e-mails I had saved. She was upset, but not surprised. She knew the smile on my face wasn't from her. We had a very long, deep meaningful conversation. She knows everything. She also knows how much I care about you. I don't want to hurt you. I have never cared for someone like I have for you. You brought light into my dark life. You are as true to me as the breeze. In my heart, we have made love a million times. That is something I will never forget. My heart will cherish you always. And one day, in another time, we will be one.

Your awaiting soul-mate

She holds onto her chair for support. She knew the time was going to come, but so soon? She wasn't ready. Or was she? The time spent with her on-line lover has made her open her eyes. Made her see life as one big dream. And if tomorrow is not meant to be, she knows she had felt love. Maybe not in the traditional way, but it was love just the same. A sudden feeling of peace filled her heart. At that moment, she knew she would be ok.
