Heart-Strings, p3
She dails a couple of numbers, and stops. Why should I? I lost my chance. Lost my only thing making me happy. Slamming down the receiver, she starts to cry.
Feeling very tired and very alone, she pushes herself off her chair, and into her bedroom. Her exhausted soul has had enough for today. She climbs into her warm bed and tries to close her eyes. But lost memories keep them open, making her mind replay everything he had promised her. Altho they had not met, he was as close to her as anyone had ever gotten. He broke down walls that had taken years to build. His kind and understanding words seemed to create a place where she feared nothing.
They had been talking for a couple of months now. To her it felt like a couple of years. He was always there with a word of encouragement whenever she needed it. She never had to tell him, he always knew.
Slowly, her eyes began to flutter, then softly close shut. She could not think about it right now. Later, she would do what was right. She would just tell him it was over. In her heart, she knew it was wrong, to love this married man. But she also knew her heart has grown and blossomed because of him. So not wanting to be responsible for tearing up a family, she will end it.
Nothing stirred in her room. The only sound heard was the beating of a broken heart. But life will go on, it always does. Maybe not the way she had planned it, but it still goes by. Not stopping for a few cut heart-strings.
Her breathing even, her body relaxed, she slept. Slept and dreamed of a lost love she had never seen.
